SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 369 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. Esperanza Zendejas for her many accomplishments and her exemplary service as superintendent of the Brownsville Independent School District; and WHEREAS, A native of Mexico, Esperanza grew up primarily in the Imperial Valley region of California; she was raised by loving parents who instilled in her the confidence and strength to reach any goal she set for herself, and she has devoted her career to helping young citizens meet their full potential; and WHEREAS, Esperanza started on her professional path in 1975 as a sixth-grade teacher; she later worked as a school counselor, and she became a superintendent at a time when women were rarely offered that position; and WHEREAS, Dr. Zendejas first served as superintendent of the Brownsville Independent School District from 1992 to 1995, and she returned to the role in 2015 to help the district address the unique challenges of having a student population with high rates of poverty; and WHEREAS, Over the last four years, Dr. Zendejas has worked diligently to expand opportunities for students; her many achievements include extending care for elementary school students, expanding school transportation routes, integrating innovative technology in classrooms, and establishing career-training options for high school students; and WHEREAS, A highly respected superintendent, Esperanza Zendejas is guided by a desire to see every child succeed, and the residents of Brownsville are indeed grateful for her exemplary service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Esperanza Zendejas for helping the students of Brownsville develop the skills they need to become the leaders of tomorrow; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
