5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
---|
6 | 6 | | death of Julius E. Fambry of The Colony on September 16, 2018, at |
---|
7 | 7 | | the age of 85; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Emil and Marie Fambry, "Dewey" Fambry |
---|
9 | 9 | | was born in Ohio on October 21, 1932, and grew up with three |
---|
10 | 10 | | siblings, Alice, Charles, and Loretta; he and his wife, Rosa Anna |
---|
11 | 11 | | Fambry, shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 61 years until |
---|
12 | 12 | | her passing, and he was the loving father of two daughters, Judi |
---|
13 | 13 | | and Janet; later in life, he had the pleasure of welcoming into |
---|
14 | 14 | | his family three grandchildren, Shane, Jeremy, and Chase, and a |
---|
15 | 15 | | great-grandchild, Gunnar; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Fambry enlisted in the United States Army in |
---|
17 | 17 | | 1949 and fought bravely in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star and |
---|
18 | 18 | | two Purple Hearts; in 1970, he retired at the rank of first |
---|
19 | 19 | | sergeant following two decades of dedicated service; upon |
---|
20 | 20 | | returning to civilian life, he joined Lincoln Technical |
---|
21 | 21 | | Institute in Indianapolis, where he was quickly promoted to |
---|
22 | 22 | | director and transferred to Texas to run the Dallas campus; after |
---|
23 | 23 | | many years as a technical educator, he owned and operated an auto |
---|
24 | 24 | | repair business; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A proud veteran, Mr. Fambry was a founder and |
---|
26 | 26 | | first commander of the American Legion Holley-Riddle Post |
---|
27 | 27 | | No. 21, and he played a leading role in creating the Veterans |
---|
28 | 28 | | Memorial at The Colony Five Star Complex; he was a life member of |
---|
29 | 29 | | the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Masons, Demolay, the American |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legion, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and in 2011, |
---|
31 | 31 | | he received the Congressional Veteran Commendation from United |
---|
32 | 32 | | States Representative Michael Burgess; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Fambry was also a highly competitive |
---|
34 | 34 | | triathlete and marathoner, and he competed in three Duathlon |
---|
35 | 35 | | World Championships, including one in the French city of Calais; |
---|
36 | 36 | | he was active at The Colony Senior Center, where he taught |
---|
37 | 37 | | computer skills, and he often enjoyed a beer in his garage while |
---|
38 | 38 | | listening to Austrian polka music; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, A man with boundless energy and a mischievous |
---|
40 | 40 | | spirit, Dewey Fambry devoted his life to his family, his |
---|
41 | 41 | | community, and his nation, and he leaves behind a legacy that |
---|
42 | 42 | | will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, |
---|
43 | 43 | | therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Julius E. Fambry |
---|
46 | 46 | | and extend sincere condolences to his relatives and friends; and, |
---|
47 | 47 | | be it further |
---|
48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

49 | 49 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
