| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Texas Adoptee Rights, a nonprofit organization that |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | strives to educate all citizens of Texas about the unique |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | challenges faced by adult adoptees across the state in accessing |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | their own information; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Texas Adoptee Rights is a statewide organization |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | with members representing the 254 counties of Texas; through |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | education and legislative reform, the organization works |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | tirelessly on behalf of adopted adults in Texas to restore equal |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | access to original birth certificates; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The organization also serves those adoptees and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | their families beyond Texas' borders whose births and adoptions |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | occurred in Texas; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The members of this committed organization |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | represent the ideals of honesty and transparency in adoption |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | practices, with the goal of simultaneously rectifying the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | unintended consequences of past practices and setting forth a more |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | efficient, just, and humane system for future generations; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Texas Adoptee Rights, as indicated by its |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | membership, represents the interests of all three groups present |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in adoption: adult adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | parents; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through their legislative reform efforts, the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | members of Texas Adoptee Rights work to eliminate for all Texans |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | such things as unequal treatment under the law, barriers to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | personal identity information, and a lack of family health |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend Texas Adoptee Rights and recognize |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | March 11, 2019, as Texas Adoptee Rights Day at the Capitol; and, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |

| 34 | 34 | | honor of Texas Adoptee Rights Day at the Capitol. |
