5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Borger in mourning the loss of R. D. Cornelison, who |
---|
7 | 7 | | died October 4, 2018, at the age of 86; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, R. D. Cornelison was born to Theodore and Ova |
---|
9 | 9 | | Cornelison on January 25, 1932, in Lebanon, Oklahoma; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, He served his country with distinction as a |
---|
11 | 11 | | corporal in the United States Army, and he held fond memories of |
---|
12 | 12 | | his time playing on the base football and basketball teams while |
---|
13 | 13 | | stationed in Austria; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, R. D. moved to Borger, Texas, in 1951, and he |
---|
15 | 15 | | enjoyed a long career as a transportation supervisor for the |
---|
16 | 16 | | Phillips Petroleum Company; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A respected civic leader, Mr. Cornelison served |
---|
18 | 18 | | as a Hutchinson County commissioner for 16 years; he also gave |
---|
19 | 19 | | generously of his time to youth sports, 4-H clubs, the annual |
---|
20 | 20 | | livestock show, and the Rotary Club; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, R. D. shared 66 years of marriage with his devoted |
---|
22 | 22 | | wife, Ella, and they were blessed with three children, Rick, |
---|
23 | 23 | | Janis, and Lisa; his five grandchildren and seven |
---|
24 | 24 | | great-grandchildren were a source of great pride and joy; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, R. D. Cornelison loved farming, driving trucks, |
---|
26 | 26 | | and playing sports, especially tennis; he was a man of wisdom, |
---|
27 | 27 | | strength, and generosity, and his many contributions to the |
---|
28 | 28 | | community will not be forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
---|
29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
31 | 31 | | family of R. D. Cornelison; and, be it further |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
33 | 33 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
35 | 35 | | memory of R. D. Cornelison. |
