11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 393
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 join Texans across the state in observing March of 2019 as
44 Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month; and
55 WHEREAS, Approximately three million Americans live with
66 bleeding disorders that can cause extended bleeding after
77 injury, surgery, or trauma and that can be life-threatening if
88 not treated effectively; and
99 WHEREAS, Bleeding disorders occur when the body lacks the
1010 platelets and proteins necessary for blood to clot or when those
1111 platelets and proteins do not function properly; the causes of
1212 bleeding disorders include severe liver disease, the lack of
1313 vitamin K, the effect of medicines, and hereditary conditions
1414 like hemophilia or von Willebrand disease; and
1515 WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that time be dedicated to
1616 raising awareness of the need for research on treatments and
1717 cures for bleeding disorders and of the importance of advocacy on
1818 behalf of those affected by the disorders; now, therefore, be it
1919 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
2020 Legislature, hereby commend those working to prevent and treat
2121 bleeding disorders and extend to them best wishes for a productive
2222 Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month; and, be it further
2323 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
2424 honor of Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month.
