1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 393
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	join Texans across the state in observing March of 2019 as
4	4	Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Approximately three million Americans live with
6	6	bleeding disorders that can cause extended bleeding after
7	7	injury, surgery, or trauma and that can be life-threatening if
8	8	not treated effectively; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Bleeding disorders occur when the body lacks the
10	10	platelets and proteins necessary for blood to clot or when those
11	11	platelets and proteins do not function properly; the causes of
12	12	bleeding disorders include severe liver disease, the lack of
13	13	vitamin K, the effect of medicines, and hereditary conditions
14	14	like hemophilia or von Willebrand disease; and
15	15	WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that time be dedicated to
16	16	raising awareness of the need for research on treatments and
17	17	cures for bleeding disorders and of the importance of advocacy on
18	18	behalf of those affected by the disorders; now, therefore, be it
19	19	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
20	20	Legislature, hereby commend those working to prevent and treat
21	21	bleeding disorders and extend to them best wishes for a productive
22	22	Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month; and, be it further
23	23	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
24	24	honor of Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month.
