| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The 91st birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly |

| 3 | 3 | | cause for celebration, and Wilbur Ethridge Adams is reaching that |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | impressive milestone on April 5, 2019; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Born in Harleton in 1928, "Bill" Adams is the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | youngest son of Joseph and Susan Adams, and he grew up with six |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | siblings, Susie, John, Joseph, Edgar, Annie, and Frances, on |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | their father's farm in Harrison County; answering his nation's |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | call to duty during World War II, he tried to register for the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | draft in 1943, but at the age of 15, he was too young; he later |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | joined the army in 1945 and served in the Philippines with the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | United States Army Corps of Engineers; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Adams settled in Dallas following his |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | military service and worked as a cable car driver and a delivery |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | driver for Mrs. Baird's bread; he married Bobbie Jean Dupree, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the couple became the proud parents of two children, Vivian and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | David; in the mid-1960s, the family moved to Mineola, where |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Mr. Adams embarked on a long and successful career with the Texas |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Highway Department, ultimately retiring in the early 1990s; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, After his first wife passed away in 2003, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Mr. Adams relocated to Tyler; fortunate to find love again, he |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | married Deborah Richardson Horton in 2006; today, he enjoys |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | playing poker with his friends and visiting the riverboat casinos |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | in Bossier City, Louisiana, and in 2018, he had the pleasure of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | traveling with his wife and two of his grandchildren to London |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and Paris; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Bill Adams has witnessed a panorama of change over |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the course of more than nine decades, and he has met life's |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | challenges and opportunities with resilience and optimism, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | earning the deep admiration of all who are privileged to know |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Wilbur Ethridge Adams on his |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 91st birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | happiness; and, be it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
