5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Bastrop County in mourning the loss of Gary Lynn |
---|
7 | 7 | | "Bubba" Snowden Sr., who died January 3, 2019, at the age of |
---|
8 | 8 | | 73; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Bubba Snowden was a beloved public servant who was |
---|
10 | 10 | | known for his kind smile, his love of animals, and his devotion to |
---|
11 | 11 | | God, family, and community; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Bubba was born on June 11, 1945, to Gladys and |
---|
13 | 13 | | Oscar Snowden; he was raised in Elgin, Texas, where he completed |
---|
14 | 14 | | his primary and secondary education, and he furthered his |
---|
15 | 15 | | academic studies at Sam Houston State University and Texas State |
---|
16 | 16 | | University; he served his country with distinction during the |
---|
17 | 17 | | Vietnam War; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, For more than 40 years, Bubba and his brothers |
---|
19 | 19 | | were owners and operators of the successful family business, |
---|
20 | 20 | | Oscar Snowden, Incorporated; Bubba retired in 2001 to work |
---|
21 | 21 | | full-time at his Elgin ranch and to care for rental properties |
---|
22 | 22 | | and spend more time with loved ones; he transitioned to public |
---|
23 | 23 | | service in 2012, when he was elected Bastrop County Commissioner |
---|
24 | 24 | | for Precinct 4, and he was reelected to the position for two |
---|
25 | 25 | | additional terms; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Snowden's hands-on approach to life was |
---|
27 | 27 | | reflected in his six years of leadership as commissioner; during |
---|
28 | 28 | | his tenure, he was admired for personally responding to public |
---|
29 | 29 | | inquiries and for prioritizing daily visits to county offices and |
---|
30 | 30 | | the local animal shelter; he is credited with making Precinct 4 |
---|
31 | 31 | | improvements that benefited area residents and will continue to |
---|
32 | 32 | | benefit the entire community long into the future; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Bubba shared a life of devotion with his cherished |
---|
34 | 34 | | wife, Donna Snowden; he was blessed with two children, the late |
---|
35 | 35 | | Gary Lynn Snowden Jr. and Tracy Snowden Ortiz, a son-in-law, |
---|
36 | 36 | | Pascual Ortiz, and two granddaughters, Charlie and Paloma, who |
---|
37 | 37 | | enriched his life immeasurably; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Bubba Snowden was noted for his generous spirit |
---|
39 | 39 | | and his work ethic and for his high standards and family values; |
---|
40 | 40 | | he lived his life to the fullest, and he leaves behind memories |
---|
41 | 41 | | that will be treasured forever by all who were privileged to |
---|
42 | 42 | | share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
45 | 45 | | family of Gary Lynn Snowden Sr.; and, be it further |
---|
46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
47 | 47 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
48 | 48 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
49 | 49 | | memory of Gary Snowden. |
