11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 40
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the American Heart Association and to proclaim
44 February 1, 2019, National Wear Red Day in Texas; and
55 WHEREAS, The vast majority of cardiovascular diseases are
66 preventable, yet millions of women are affected by heart
77 conditions, and cardiovascular diseases are the number one
88 killer of women in the United States; and
99 WHEREAS, Risk factors for cardiovascular diseases include
1010 high blood pressure, smoking, and high cholesterol, all of which
1111 can be controlled with healthy lifestyle choices; and
1212 WHEREAS, The American Heart Association established the Go
1313 Red for Women movement to encourage women to take charge of their
1414 heart health by learning their family health histories and by
1515 meeting with their health care providers to determine their risk
1616 factors for cardiovascular disease; and
1717 WHEREAS, National Wear Red Day is an opportunity for Texans
1818 to show their support for women and the ongoing fight against
1919 heart disease; now, therefore, be it
2020 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
2121 Legislature, hereby urge citizens throughout the state to
2222 express their support for women by observing National Wear Red
2323 Day in Texas and commend all associated with the American Heart
2424 Association for promoting the health of women; and, be it further
2525 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
2626 honor of this important day.
