11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 402
22 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize the Boys
33 and Girls Clubs in Texas for the valuable contributions they make
44 to the young people and families of this state; and
55 WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs provide services to over
66 360,000 school-aged youth in more than 180 communities in Texas;
77 their goal is to inspire all young people, especially those who
88 need it most, to realize their full potential as productive,
99 responsible, and caring citizens; and
1010 WHEREAS, Through strong and effective programs, leaders in
1111 the Boys and Girls Clubs stress character and leadership
1212 development, education and career advancement, and health and
1313 life skills; they encourage an appreciation for the arts and
1414 provide programs in sports, fitness, and recreation; and
1515 WHEREAS, The programs promote a better self-image and
1616 improved social, emotional, and cultural awareness while
1717 encouraging community involvement, strong moral values, and
1818 enhanced life-management skills; and
1919 WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Club programs aim for results in
2020 three primary outcome areas: Academic Success, Healthy
2121 Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship; and
2222 WHEREAS, On March 19th, 2019, one finalist from Texas will
2323 be chosen as Texas State Youth of the Year and one young person
2424 from Texas military-based clubs will be chosen as Texas Military
2525 Youth of the Year; these youths will represent the State of Texas
2626 in the national Boys and Girls Clubs of America Youth and
2727 Military Youth of the Year competitions; and
2828 WHEREAS, Through the years, Boys and Girls Clubs have
2929 encouraged young people to aspire to the highest level of
3030 personal development and to become good citizens who are involved
3131 in their communities; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3333 Legislature, hereby commend Boys and Girls Clubs across Texas for
3434 the outstanding services they provide young people and their
3535 families; and, be it further
3636 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3737 the organization as an expression of high regard from the
3838 Texas Senate.
