1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 402
2	2	WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize the Boys
3	3	and Girls Clubs in Texas for the valuable contributions they make
4	4	to the young people and families of this state; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs provide services to over
6	6	360,000 school-aged youth in more than 180 communities in Texas;
7	7	their goal is to inspire all young people, especially those who
8	8	need it most, to realize their full potential as productive,
9	9	responsible, and caring citizens; and
10	10	WHEREAS, Through strong and effective programs, leaders in
11	11	the Boys and Girls Clubs stress character and leadership
12	12	development, education and career advancement, and health and
13	13	life skills; they encourage an appreciation for the arts and
14	14	provide programs in sports, fitness, and recreation; and
15	15	WHEREAS, The programs promote a better self-image and
16	16	improved social, emotional, and cultural awareness while
17	17	encouraging community involvement, strong moral values, and
18	18	enhanced life-management skills; and
19	19	WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Club programs aim for results in
20	20	three primary outcome areas: Academic Success, Healthy
21	21	Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship; and
22	22	WHEREAS, On March 19th, 2019, one finalist from Texas will
23	23	be chosen as Texas State Youth of the Year and one young person
24	24	from Texas military-based clubs will be chosen as Texas Military
25	25	Youth of the Year; these youths will represent the State of Texas
26	26	in the national Boys and Girls Clubs of America Youth and
27	27	Military Youth of the Year competitions; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Through the years, Boys and Girls Clubs have
29	29	encouraged young people to aspire to the highest level of
30	30	personal development and to become good citizens who are involved
31	31	in their communities; now, therefore, be it
32	32	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
33	33	Legislature, hereby commend Boys and Girls Clubs across Texas for
34	34	the outstanding services they provide young people and their
35	35	families; and, be it further
36	36	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
37	37	the organization as an expression of high regard from the
38	38	Texas Senate.
