2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The V.G. Young Institute of County Government is |

3 | 3 | | marking its 50th anniversary in 2019; and |
---|
4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, In 1969, the institute was created by the 61st |
---|
5 | 5 | | Legislature to provide educational programs and information to |
---|
6 | 6 | | county officials; as part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension |
---|
7 | 7 | | Service of The Texas A&M University System, the institute can |
---|
8 | 8 | | draw on many valuable resources, and it benefits by assistance |
---|
9 | 9 | | from 13 research and extension centers across the state; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The institute operates annual continuing |
---|
11 | 11 | | education schools for county judges, commissioners, tax |
---|
12 | 12 | | assessor-collectors, and human resources professionals; it |
---|
13 | 13 | | works with the Texas Association of Counties to plan |
---|
14 | 14 | | educational programming for the County Judges and |
---|
15 | 15 | | Commissioners Association of Texas, and it assists in planning |
---|
16 | 16 | | for regional association conferences of county judges and |
---|
17 | 17 | | commissioners; in addition, the institute is the official |
---|
18 | 18 | | educational sponsor for a variety of other programs, |
---|
19 | 19 | | conferences, and seminars for county leaders; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In partnership with the County Judges and |
---|
21 | 21 | | Commissioners Association and the Texas Association of Counties, |
---|
22 | 22 | | the institute developed the Commissioners Court Advanced |
---|
23 | 23 | | Curriculum certification program for county judges and |
---|
24 | 24 | | commissioners; the institute further promotes high-level skills |
---|
25 | 25 | | through a two-year Commissioners Court Leadership Academy; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The institute is a source of expert advice as |
---|
27 | 27 | | well; dedicated staff members respond to questions from county |
---|
28 | 28 | | officials, extension agents, and the general public, and they are |
---|
29 | 29 | | available to advise associations for regional judges and |
---|
30 | 30 | | commissioners; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of the past half century, the |
---|
32 | 32 | | Institute of County Government has played a vital role in the |
---|
33 | 33 | | professional development of county officials across the state, |
---|
34 | 34 | | helping them to meet ever-higher standards of public service; |
---|
35 | 35 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the V.G. Young Institute of |
---|
38 | 38 | | County Government on its 50th anniversary and commend all those |
---|
39 | 39 | | associated with the agency for their outstanding contributions; |
---|
40 | 40 | | and, be it further |

41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
