5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Judge Joyce Darlene Ewing, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | November 16, 2018, at the age of 64; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Darlene Ewing was born December 22, 1953, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Corpus Christi, to Richard Carroll Ewing and Alpha Ann Ewing; |
---|
10 | 10 | | after her graduation from Robstown High School, she attended East |
---|
11 | 11 | | Texas State University and earned a degree from The University of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Texas School of Law; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She began her distinguished legal career by |
---|
14 | 14 | | serving with the Dallas Legal Aid Society, and she later took a |
---|
15 | 15 | | position with the Dallas County Child Support Office; she went on |
---|
16 | 16 | | to establish her own firm, and she practiced family law for 37 |
---|
17 | 17 | | years before becoming judge of the 254th District Court in Dallas |
---|
18 | 18 | | County in 2017; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, She had a great love of politics and served for 10 |
---|
20 | 20 | | years as chair of the Dallas County Democratic Party; under her |
---|
21 | 21 | | leadership, the party began to dominate in county-wide |
---|
22 | 22 | | elections, and Democrats won every contested race between 2006 |
---|
23 | 23 | | and 2012; she was also a generous donor to multiple charities and |
---|
24 | 24 | | a committed volunteer for numerous community organizations; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and determination, |
---|
26 | 26 | | she dedicated her life to helping others, and her commitment to |
---|
27 | 27 | | social justice and her enthusiasm for living each day to the |
---|
28 | 28 | | fullest will not be forgotten; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, She was devoted to her loving extended family, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by all |
---|
31 | 31 | | who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
34 | 34 | | family of Judge Joyce Darlene Ewing; and, be it further |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
36 | 36 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
