11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 418
22 WHEREAS, Albert P. Carey is retiring as CEO of PepsiCo
33 North America on March 29, 2019, drawing to a close an
44 outstanding career that has spanned more than three and a half
55 decades; and
66 WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Maryland with a
77 bachelor's degree in government and politics, Al Carey worked for
88 Procter & Gamble for seven years before joining PepsiCo in 1981,
99 and over the course of his exemplary 37-year tenure with the
1010 company, he has distinguished himself in a number of positions of
1111 increasing responsibility; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. Carey served as senior vice president of
1313 sales and retailer strategies for PepsiCo and as senior vice
1414 president of sales for Pepsi-Cola North America from 1998 to
1515 2002, when he became chief operating officer for PepsiCo
1616 Beverages & Foods and Foods North America; the following year, he
1717 was named president of PepsiCo Sales as well as chief customer
1818 officer, and he served in those roles until his June 2006
1919 appointment as president and CEO of Frito-Lay North America; in
2020 2011, he became CEO of PepsiCo Americas Beverages, and four years
2121 later, he was named CEO of the North America Beverages Segment;
2222 he has been CEO of PepsiCo North America since April 2016, with
2323 responsibility for overseeing the company's beverages,
2424 Frito-Lay, and Quaker Foods businesses in North America; and
2525 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Carey has been widely
2626 admired for his skill, his entrepreneurial vision, and his deep
2727 commitment to PepsiCo consumers; he has mentored many younger
2828 employees, and he helped create the company's Ring of Honor
2929 program, which recognizes the work of frontline sales
3030 associates; a champion for diversity as well, he often led the
3131 company's initiatives with leading Latino organizations; and
3232 WHEREAS, Mr. Carey additionally serves as a director for
3333 The Home Depot and the Food Marketing Institute, and he holds
3434 membership on the board of trustees of the University of Maryland
3535 and on the dean's advisory council of the Robert H. Smith School
3636 of Business; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support
3737 of his wife, Vickie, and their four children; and
3838 WHEREAS, Al Carey's dedication and integrity have greatly
3939 benefited PepsiCo and earned him the respect and admiration of
4040 his colleagues, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career
4141 well spent as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his
4242 life; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4444 Legislature, hereby congratulate Albert Carey on his retirement
4545 from PepsiCo North America and extend to him sincere best wishes
4646 for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4848 prepared for Mr. Carey as an expression of high regard by the
4949 Texas Senate.
