2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Albert P. Carey is retiring as CEO of PepsiCo |

3 | 3 | | North America on March 29, 2019, drawing to a close an |

4 | 4 | | outstanding career that has spanned more than three and a half |

5 | 5 | | decades; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Maryland with a |
---|
7 | 7 | | bachelor's degree in government and politics, Al Carey worked for |
---|
8 | 8 | | Procter & Gamble for seven years before joining PepsiCo in 1981, |
---|
9 | 9 | | and over the course of his exemplary 37-year tenure with the |
---|
10 | 10 | | company, he has distinguished himself in a number of positions of |
---|
11 | 11 | | increasing responsibility; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Carey served as senior vice president of |
---|
13 | 13 | | sales and retailer strategies for PepsiCo and as senior vice |
---|
14 | 14 | | president of sales for Pepsi-Cola North America from 1998 to |
---|
15 | 15 | | 2002, when he became chief operating officer for PepsiCo |
---|
16 | 16 | | Beverages & Foods and Foods North America; the following year, he |
---|
17 | 17 | | was named president of PepsiCo Sales as well as chief customer |
---|
18 | 18 | | officer, and he served in those roles until his June 2006 |
---|
19 | 19 | | appointment as president and CEO of Frito-Lay North America; in |
---|
20 | 20 | | 2011, he became CEO of PepsiCo Americas Beverages, and four years |
---|
21 | 21 | | later, he was named CEO of the North America Beverages Segment; |
---|
22 | 22 | | he has been CEO of PepsiCo North America since April 2016, with |
---|
23 | 23 | | responsibility for overseeing the company's beverages, |
---|
24 | 24 | | Frito-Lay, and Quaker Foods businesses in North America; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Carey has been widely |
---|
26 | 26 | | admired for his skill, his entrepreneurial vision, and his deep |
---|
27 | 27 | | commitment to PepsiCo consumers; he has mentored many younger |
---|
28 | 28 | | employees, and he helped create the company's Ring of Honor |
---|
29 | 29 | | program, which recognizes the work of frontline sales |
---|
30 | 30 | | associates; a champion for diversity as well, he often led the |
---|
31 | 31 | | company's initiatives with leading Latino organizations; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Carey additionally serves as a director for |
---|
33 | 33 | | The Home Depot and the Food Marketing Institute, and he holds |
---|
34 | 34 | | membership on the board of trustees of the University of Maryland |
---|
35 | 35 | | and on the dean's advisory council of the Robert H. Smith School |
---|
36 | 36 | | of Business; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support |
---|
37 | 37 | | of his wife, Vickie, and their four children; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Al Carey's dedication and integrity have greatly |
---|
39 | 39 | | benefited PepsiCo and earned him the respect and admiration of |
---|
40 | 40 | | his colleagues, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career |
---|
41 | 41 | | well spent as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his |
---|
42 | 42 | | life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |

44 | 44 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Albert Carey on his retirement |
---|
45 | 45 | | from PepsiCo North America and extend to him sincere best wishes |

46 | 46 | | for continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
