| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Teresa L. Martinez, who died |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | November 7, 2018, at the age of 101; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Teresa Martinez was born on October 11, 1917; she |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | became a beloved matriarch whose compassion for others and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | commitment to service were a shining example to all who had the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | privilege of sharing in her life; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Widowed at the age of 34, she worked hard to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | support her children, and she devoted her life to caring for her |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | large and loving extended family; her surviving children, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Nereyda L. Benavides, Angélica Serrano, Alejandra López, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Gumaro López, and her 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and eight great-great-grandchildren were a source of much joy and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | comfort to her in her later years; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, She was known lovingly to her family and friends |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | as Guelita Tere, and she was a devout Catholic who practiced her |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | faith in her daily life; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, A woman of strength, courage, and generosity, she |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her humble nature, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | forgotten; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Teresa Martinez was a loving and devoted mother and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | forever by her family and friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | family of Teresa L. Martinez; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
