| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | welcome the visiting delegation from Alzheimer's Texas and to |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | proclaim April 3, 2019, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day in |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | degenerative disease of the brain's nerve cells that results in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | impaired memory, thinking, and behavior, and it is the most |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | common cause of dementia; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Approximately 10 percent of adults over the age of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 65 have Alzheimer's disease, and the disease is the sixth-leading |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | cause of death in the United States; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease affects an estimated |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 380,000 Texans, and that number is expected to rise to 490,000 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | by 2025; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Extensive research has been conducted since |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Dr. Alois Alzheimer first described the symptoms and the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | disease more than 100 years ago, and several promising drug |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | treatments have been introduced that delay the onset of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | disease symptoms; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Alzheimer's Texas provides information, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | assistance, and support for persons who have Alzheimer's disease |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | or related dementias; the organization also serves caregivers, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | professionals, and family members of those affected by the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | disease and works to raise public awareness about the disease; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend the worthy efforts of Alzheimer's |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Texas and recognize April 3, 2019, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | in Texas; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
