44 Norman Leon Moorehead
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Norman Leon Moorehead, who died March
77 10, 2019, at the age of 89; and
88 WHEREAS, Norman Moorehead was born on May 28, 1929, in Wills
99 Point, to Mary T. Wright Moorehead and Lucius G. Moorehead; he was
1010 a graduate of Cartwright High School, and he went on to earn a
1111 degree at Butler College; he served the nation with distinction as
1212 a military policeman with the United States Army; and
1313 WHEREAS, After his military service, he earned
1414 postgraduate degrees at Texas Southern University, North Texas
1515 State University, and The University of Texas; he began a long
1616 and distinguished career in public service as an educator in
1717 Wills Point; he went on to work at the Texas State Health
1818 Department, where he established a coordinated network of health
1919 service across 36 counties, and he became the first director of
2020 the Dallas Area Agency on Aging in 1973; and
2121 WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure with the agency, he
2222 prioritized the development of a seamless system of services for
2323 older adults and played a vital role in the implementation of
2424 such initiatives as the bilingual and bicultural La Voz del
2525 Anciano, the intergenerational Off Our Rockers volunteer
2626 program, and the Access Center for the Elderly, which brought
2727 together over 30 social service agencies in the community; and
2828 WHEREAS, He also served on the Governor's Committee on
2929 Aging and the Texas House of Representatives Senior Citizenship
3030 Committee, and he was honored with numerous awards through the
3131 years for his outstanding work; and
3232 WHEREAS, He married Nita Faye Brown in 1958, and the couple
3333 enjoyed 61 years of marriage together; his children, his
3434 grandchildren, and his great-granddaughter were a source of much
3535 pride and joy for him; and
3636 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and generosity, he
3737 gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
3838 counsel will not be forgotten; and
3939 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
4040 grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
4141 forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
4242 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4343 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4444 family of Norman Leon Moorehead; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4646 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4747 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4848 memory of Norman Leon Moorehead.
