SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 44 WHEREAS, Mike Fields retired as the Titus County commissioner for Precinct 2 on December 31, 2018, drawing to a close a tenure of over 30 years that was marked by many significant accomplishments; and WHEREAS, A native of Stamps, Arkansas, Mr. Fields earned a football scholarship to East Texas State University in Commerce, where he studied history and physical education; after graduating, he taught and coached briefly with the Chapel Hill Independent School District and was then hired as the head track coach at Mount Pleasant High School; he also coached freshman football during his 15-year career there before entering public service; and WHEREAS, Mr. Fields took over as Precinct 2 county commissioner in 1987, and he went on to be reelected unopposed throughout most of his time in office; he was known for his strong work ethic and his easy rapport with constituents, and one of his proudest achievements was helping to oversee the construction of the Highway 271 bypass around Mount Pleasant; and WHEREAS, Over the course of more than three decades as a county commissioner, Mike Fields has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to helping his community take on an array of challenges and opportunities, and he may indeed reflect with satisfaction on a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby congratulate Mike Fields on his retirement as the Titus County commissioner for Precinct 2 and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mr. Fields as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
