| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Mike Fields retired as the Titus County |

| 3 | 3 | | commissioner for Precinct 2 on December 31, 2018, drawing to a |

| 4 | 4 | | close a tenure of over 30 years that was marked by many |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | significant accomplishments; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A native of Stamps, Arkansas, Mr. Fields earned a |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | football scholarship to East Texas State University in Commerce, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | where he studied history and physical education; after |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | graduating, he taught and coached briefly with the Chapel Hill |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Independent School District and was then hired as the head track |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | coach at Mount Pleasant High School; he also coached freshman |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | football during his 15-year career there before entering public |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | service; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Fields took over as Precinct 2 county |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | commissioner in 1987, and he went on to be reelected unopposed |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | throughout most of his time in office; he was known for his strong |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | work ethic and his easy rapport with constituents, and one of his |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | proudest achievements was helping to oversee the construction of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the Highway 271 bypass around Mount Pleasant; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of more than three decades as a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | county commissioner, Mike Fields has demonstrated a steadfast |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | commitment to helping his community take on an array of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | challenges and opportunities, and he may indeed reflect with |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | satisfaction on a job well done; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Mike Fields on his retirement |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | as the Titus County commissioner for Precinct 2 and extend to him |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

| 30 | 30 | | prepared for Mr. Fields as an expression of high regard by the |
|---|
