| 3 | 3 | | leaders are gathering in Austin on March 25, 2019, to celebrate |

| 4 | 4 | | The Power of Pre-K Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Each year, more than 200,000 young Texans attend |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | prekindergarten classes, where they begin building a solid |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | foundation for academic achievement and for social and emotional |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | learning; these programs prepare participants for kindergarten |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | while also encouraging them to become early readers and lifelong |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | learners; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Many of the children in Texas pre-K classes come |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | from low-income backgrounds or from families where English is not |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the primary language; studies show that these students are three |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | times more likely to be kindergarten-ready after attending |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | high-quality, full-day pre-K classes; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Early childhood education helps set students on |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the path to acquiring the skills and knowledge they need to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | become productive and engaged citizens, and these programs are an |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | invaluable investment in the continued vitality and prosperity |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |

| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 25, 2019, as The Power of Pre-K |

| 23 | 23 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend to all pre-K students, their |

| 24 | 24 | | families, and their teachers sincere best wishes for the future. |
