11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 446
22 WHEREAS, Families, students, educators, and business
33 leaders are gathering in Austin on March 25, 2019, to celebrate
44 The Power of Pre-K Day at the State Capitol; and
55 WHEREAS, Each year, more than 200,000 young Texans attend
66 prekindergarten classes, where they begin building a solid
77 foundation for academic achievement and for social and emotional
88 learning; these programs prepare participants for kindergarten
99 while also encouraging them to become early readers and lifelong
1010 learners; and
1111 WHEREAS, Many of the children in Texas pre-K classes come
1212 from low-income backgrounds or from families where English is not
1313 the primary language; studies show that these students are three
1414 times more likely to be kindergarten-ready after attending
1515 high-quality, full-day pre-K classes; and
1616 WHEREAS, Early childhood education helps set students on
1717 the path to acquiring the skills and knowledge they need to
1818 become productive and engaged citizens, and these programs are an
1919 invaluable investment in the continued vitality and prosperity
2020 of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
2121 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
2222 Legislature, hereby recognize March 25, 2019, as The Power of Pre-K
2323 Day at the State Capitol and extend to all pre-K students, their
2424 families, and their teachers sincere best wishes for the future.
