11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 450
22 WHEREAS, The Texas Sports Hall of Fame is recognizing the
33 exceptional accomplishments of its 2019 inductees at a ceremony
44 on March 30 in Waco; and
55 WHEREAS, Since inducting its first member in 1951, the
66 Texas Sports Hall of Fame has honored the athletic careers of
77 more than 300 men and women; in 1993, the institution opened a
88 museum in Waco to chronicle the lives of these legendary
99 individuals and to preserve the history of sports in Texas for
1010 present and future generations; and
1111 WHEREAS, The hall of fame's Class of 2019 is made up of
1212 seven exemplary athletes: the late professional tennis star
1313 Maureen Connolly Brinker, former Texas A&M University and
1414 National Football League placekicker Tony Franklin, former
1515 Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson, pioneering
1616 professional basketball player and coach Nancy Lieberman, former
1717 University of Arkansas football player Loyd Phillips, former
1818 University of Texas and Major League Baseball pitcher Greg
1919 Swindell, and retired Dallas Cowboys All-Pro tight end Jason
2020 Witten; and
2121 WHEREAS, Through their outstanding skill and dedication,
2222 these esteemed Texans have furthered the proud tradition of
2323 athletic excellence in the Lone Star State, and they are indeed
2424 deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
2626 Legislature, hereby recognize the 2019 inductees of the Texas
2727 Sports Hall of Fame and extend to them sincere best wishes for
2828 the future.
