| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Robert Donovan "Bob" Newman, who died |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | April 4, 2018, at the age of 87; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Bob Newman was born on February 2, 1931, in Big |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Lake, to Sam and Eva Newman; he graduated from Mullen High |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | School, and he served the nation as a member of the United States |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Army Air Forces; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, He attended San Angelo College and joined the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Texas National Guard; he also attended Howard Payne College and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | worked for a time with the Texas Department of Transportation and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | with Gulf Oil; in 1962, he joined the Texas Department of Public |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Safety and served the people of Texas with distinction for more |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | than three decades as a peace officer; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Newman was active in a wide range of community |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | organizations, including the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the Lions Club, the Optimist Club, the YMCA, and the YWCA; he held |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | leadership positions with the Boy Scouts of America and the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | American Red Cross; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, He married Nelda Bedair, and he was blessed with |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | four children, Robert Newman Jr., Donna Geidner, Deborah |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Ingersoll, and Linda Hirt, and a stepdaughter, Pamela Parks; his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren were a source of much |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | pride and joy for him; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and generosity, he |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | gave unselfishly to others, and he will be remembered for his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | commitment to public service and his enthusiasm for living each |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | day to the fullest; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted father and grandfather, and he |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | family of Robert Donovan Newman; and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
