2	2	WHEREAS, Austin artist Bob "Daddy-O" Wade has earned
3	3	international distinction for himself and for his state as an
4	4	extraordinary exporter of Texas culture and creator of giant
5	5	public sculptures; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Bob Wade was born in Austin, Texas; he received a
7	7	bachelor of fine arts degree from The University of Texas at
8	8	Austin and a master of arts degree from the University of
9	9	California, Berkeley; and
10	10	WHEREAS, Known as a "pioneer of Texas Funk and connoisseur
11	11	of Southwestern kitsch," Mr. Wade was a shaper of the 1970s Texas
12	12	"cosmic" counterculture and has been a longtime ambassador for
13	13	Texas art; his oversized Texas-themed sculptural work includes a
14	14	giant six-shooter in Del Rio, which was made using a 55-gallon
15	15	drum for the cylinder, a stove pipe for the barrel, and stucco for
16	16	the pearl handle; and
17	17	WHEREAS, Bob Wade is the recipient of three National
18	18	Endowment for the Arts grants, and his work has been included in
19	19	biennial exhibitions in Paris, France, in New Orleans, and at the
20	20	Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City; his work can be
21	21	found at the Menil Collection in Houston and in the collections
22	22	of the Austin Museum of Art, Chase Manhattan Bank, and AT&T; he
23	23	has produced three books, and his work was included in Oil Patch
24	24	Dreams: Images of the Petroleum Industry in American Art at the
25	25	Art Museum of Southeast Texas; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Mr. Wade's unique larger-than-life art includes
27	27	his 2006 Kinky Mobile, a small teardrop trailer with a large
28	28	cowboy hat on top and a three-foot cigar sticking out the front,
29	29	the production of which coincided with Kinky Friedman's run for
30	30	Texas governor, and his iconic iguana, which stood on the roof of
31	31	the Lone Star Café in New York City for a decade and can now be
32	32	seen atop a building at the Fort Worth Zoo; his work can also be
33	33	found at The Grove in Fort Worth, as part of the Waterside
34	34	development's public art program; installed in 2016, this
35	35	outdoor sculpture celebrates the area's history and is made from
36	36	repurposed amusement-park rides and playground equipment; a book
37	37	chronicling the oversized artworks he has created over a span of
38	38	50 years will be published by Texas A&M University Press in March
39	39	2020; and
40	40	WHEREAS, Turning 40 years old this year is the largest
41	41	cowboy boot sculpture in the world, a Bob Wade creation that was
42	42	recognized by the Guinness book of world records; the enormous
43	43	pair of ostrich boots is seen daily by thousands of drivers going
44	44	past the North Star Mall on Loop 410 in San Antonio; now,
45	45	therefore, be it
46	46	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
47	47	Legislature, hereby congratulate Bob "Daddy-O" Wade on his
48	48	mastery of oversized Texas symbols and on the 40th anniversary of
49	49	his World's Largest Cowboy Boots; and, be it further
50	50	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
51	51	Daddy-O as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
