| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Community leaders from Balch Springs are gathering |

| 3 | 3 | | in Austin on March 26, 2019, to celebrate Balch Springs Day at the |

| 4 | 4 | | State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Located in Dallas County, the town traces its |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | history to the 1870s, when John Balch, who had fought for the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | independence of Texas at the Battle of San Jacinto and other |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | engagements, settled in the area with his family; his land |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | contained a permanent spring that became a gathering place for |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | nearby residents, and the settlement that took shape over the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | following decades was named for him and this important water |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | source; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Balch Springs is a home-rule city that was |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | incorporated in 1953, when approximately 3,000 people lived |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | there; the population rose in the decades that followed, with an |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | increasing number of manufacturing companies and other |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | businesses opening their doors; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Today, this bustling city is home to more than |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 25,000 people and serves as a southeastern gateway to the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Metroplex; it offers convenient access to the surrounding area as |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | well as to major interstate and international transportation |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | routes, and its location, combined with its forward-looking |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | civic leadership and productive workforce, has attracted |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | numerous companies, including a number of firms in the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | telecommunications industry; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Quality of life is another factor in the city's |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | growth, and numerous residents have been drawn by its thriving |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | community atmosphere, highly regarded schools, and myriad |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | options for housing, entertainment, culture, and recreation, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | which include a library and learning center, the Double D Ranch, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the Baseball Nation Ballpark South, and the Premier Park soccer |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | fields; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Balch Springs offers an inviting mixture of |

| 34 | 34 | | small-town charm and big-city amenities, and its citizens may |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | indeed take great pride in their community's ongoing achievements; |

| 36 | 36 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 26, 2019, as Balch Springs |

| 39 | 39 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation |

| 40 | 40 | | sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin. |
