5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Dr. Joaquin G. Cigarroa Jr., who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | March 20, 2019, at the age of 94; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Joaquin Cigarroa was a leading South Texas |
---|
9 | 9 | | citizen and a highly respected physician who was known for his |
---|
10 | 10 | | exceptional generosity, humanitarianism, and compassion, and he |
---|
11 | 11 | | was a source of strength and an inspiration to all who were |
---|
12 | 12 | | privileged to share in his life; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Born May 5, 1924, in San Antonio, he was |
---|
14 | 14 | | valedictorian of his 1941 class at Martin High School, and he |
---|
15 | 15 | | went on to attend The University of Texas and to graduate cum |
---|
16 | 16 | | laude from Harvard Medical School; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Barbara Flores Cigarroa, |
---|
18 | 18 | | enjoyed more than six decades of marriage together, and they were |
---|
19 | 19 | | blessed with 10 children; their grandchildren, |
---|
20 | 20 | | great-grandchildren, and the rest of the large and loving |
---|
21 | 21 | | extended family were a source of much pride and joy for him; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of more than 70 years in the |
---|
23 | 23 | | practice of medicine, Dr. Cigarroa had a profound influence on |
---|
24 | 24 | | the lives of countless people; he held numerous leadership |
---|
25 | 25 | | positions in the Laredo community and received many awards for |
---|
26 | 26 | | his outstanding achievements and his life of service; a devoted |
---|
27 | 27 | | husband, father, and grandfather, he leaves behind memories that |
---|
28 | 28 | | will be treasured forever by his family and countless friends; |
---|
29 | 29 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
32 | 32 | | family of Dr. Joaquin G. Cigarroa Jr.; and, be it further |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

34 | 34 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |

35 | 35 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
