SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 476 WHEREAS, Micheal Brown, a senior at Lamar High School in Houston, has been rewarded for his stellar academic accomplishments by earning full-ride scholarships to 20 colleges, including a number of Ivy League universities; and WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan gained admittance to such institutions as Yale, Princeton, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, and Harvard Universities, along with his longtime dream school, Stanford University; he can look forward to having his tuition fully covered at whichever institution he chooses; moreover, he has been awarded an additional $260,000 in other scholarship funds; and WHEREAS, Mr. Brown has distinguished himself by earning a GPA of 4.68 and near-perfect SAT and ACT scores of 1540 and 34, respectively; in addition to excelling academically, he has maintained a schedule of extracurricular activities that has included involvement in the debate program, the Key Club, student government, and tennis; he credits his success to the support and encouragement of his classmates, his teachers and counselors, and his mother, Berthinia Rutledge-Brown, who has inspired him to keep pushing himself to greater heights; and WHEREAS, Micheal Brown has proven himself to be a young man of remarkable intellect, character, and perseverance in the pursuit of his goals, and it is a pleasure to join his family and friends in recognizing him as he embarks on a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby congratulate Micheal Brown on earning full-ride scholarships to 20 prestigious universities and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mr. Brown as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
