1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 477
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
3	3	welcoming a visiting delegation of 4,000 Catholics and their
4	4	bishops from the 15 Roman Catholic dioceses of Texas and in
5	5	saluting the Catholic ministries of Texas for their service to
6	6	Texans of all walks of life, especially the most vulnerable in
7	7	our state; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The Catholic bishops of Texas shepherd and serve
9	9	the 8.4 million Catholics in the 15 dioceses of Texas by
10	10	providing nourishment for their body, soul, and spirit and
11	11	tirelessly advocating for the common good; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Catholic Respect Life programs offer services to
13	13	women facing crisis pregnancies, save the lives of thousands of
14	14	new Texans every year, and provide ongoing assistance for these
15	15	families; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Catholic Charities ministries, present in more
17	17	than 20 locations in Texas, as well as hundreds of parish-based
18	18	social ministries, including the Society of Saint Vincent de
19	19	Paul, extend to persons of all races, religions, and
20	20	socioeconomic backgrounds the healing power of faith, as well as
21	21	tangible assistance, with the goal of helping them reach
22	22	self-sufficiency; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Catholic schools, which emphasize moral
24	24	development, service to others, stewardship, and leadership
25	25	skills, are a valuable source of education, grounded in faith,
26	26	for over 70,000 Texas students; and
27	27	WHEREAS, Catholic religious education programs provide
28	28	religious instruction and formation to more than 384,000
29	29	Catholic children and their parents and families, and they teach
30	30	Catholics to reflect upon the role that each person plays, by
31	31	virtue of baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to
32	32	the Gospel; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Catholic family life ministries provide marriage
34	34	preparation and education to engaged couples, support marriage
35	35	enrichment programs, and provide support for families throughout
36	36	Texas in order to strengthen and nurture their relationships; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Catholic chaplains provide pastoral care and
38	38	reaffirm the dignity of those who are incarcerated in our prisons
39	39	and jails; now, therefore, be it
40	40	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
41	41	Legislature, hereby extend a warm welcome to the members of the
42	42	Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops delegation on the occasion
43	43	of Catholic Faith in Action Advocacy Day at the State Capitol and
44	44	commend all those associated with these ministries for their
45	45	ongoing efforts to promote the dignity of all human life from
46	46	conceptiontonaturaldeathandforprovidingvaluableservices
47	47	throughout our state, especially to the most vulnerable; and, be
48	48	it further
49	49	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
50	50	the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops as an expression of high
51	51	regard from the Texas Senate.
