11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 477
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
33 welcoming a visiting delegation of 4,000 Catholics and their
44 bishops from the 15 Roman Catholic dioceses of Texas and in
55 saluting the Catholic ministries of Texas for their service to
66 Texans of all walks of life, especially the most vulnerable in
77 our state; and
88 WHEREAS, The Catholic bishops of Texas shepherd and serve
99 the 8.4 million Catholics in the 15 dioceses of Texas by
1010 providing nourishment for their body, soul, and spirit and
1111 tirelessly advocating for the common good; and
1212 WHEREAS, Catholic Respect Life programs offer services to
1313 women facing crisis pregnancies, save the lives of thousands of
1414 new Texans every year, and provide ongoing assistance for these
1515 families; and
1616 WHEREAS, Catholic Charities ministries, present in more
1717 than 20 locations in Texas, as well as hundreds of parish-based
1818 social ministries, including the Society of Saint Vincent de
1919 Paul, extend to persons of all races, religions, and
2020 socioeconomic backgrounds the healing power of faith, as well as
2121 tangible assistance, with the goal of helping them reach
2222 self-sufficiency; and
2323 WHEREAS, Catholic schools, which emphasize moral
2424 development, service to others, stewardship, and leadership
2525 skills, are a valuable source of education, grounded in faith,
2626 for over 70,000 Texas students; and
2727 WHEREAS, Catholic religious education programs provide
2828 religious instruction and formation to more than 384,000
2929 Catholic children and their parents and families, and they teach
3030 Catholics to reflect upon the role that each person plays, by
3131 virtue of baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to
3232 the Gospel; and
3333 WHEREAS, Catholic family life ministries provide marriage
3434 preparation and education to engaged couples, support marriage
3535 enrichment programs, and provide support for families throughout
3636 Texas in order to strengthen and nurture their relationships; and
3737 WHEREAS, Catholic chaplains provide pastoral care and
3838 reaffirm the dignity of those who are incarcerated in our prisons
3939 and jails; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4141 Legislature, hereby extend a warm welcome to the members of the
4242 Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops delegation on the occasion
4343 of Catholic Faith in Action Advocacy Day at the State Capitol and
4444 commend all those associated with these ministries for their
4545 ongoing efforts to promote the dignity of all human life from
4646 conceptiontonaturaldeathandforprovidingvaluableservices
4747 throughout our state, especially to the most vulnerable; and, be
4848 it further
4949 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
5050 the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops as an expression of high
5151 regard from the Texas Senate.
