SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 478
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the members of the Helping Our Heroes Committee on the
occasion of the seventh annual Helping Our Heroes Golf
Tournament, which is taking place on April 6, 2019; and
WHEREAS, The Helping Our Heroes Committee was formed by
women of the South Padre Island Golf Club who sought to establish
a charitable golf tournament to benefit two worthy causes and to
honor the late Bill Couch, a military veteran who died of Lou
Gehrig's disease in 2010; and
WHEREAS, The Helping Our Heroes Golf Tournament began in
2011 as a fund-raising event for the ALS Association of Texas,
which seeks to raise awareness of Lou Gehrig's disease, and the
Wounded Warrior Project, which supports veterans who have
incurred physical or mental injuries in the years following the
September 11, 2001, attacks; and
WHEREAS, Last year, the tournament brought in 100 golfers
and raised more than $26,000 for the organizations, and to date,
the Helping Our Heroes Committee has donated more than $108,000
in event proceeds; and
WHEREAS, The Helping Our Heroes Golf Tournament is a
much-anticipated charitable event that has grown through the
support of numerous volunteers and local businesses; the ALS
Association of Texas and the Wounded Warrior Project have
greatly benefited from the fund-raiser, and all who contribute
to its success are indeed deserving of recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Helping Our Heroes
Committee for their charitable efforts and extend to all best
wishes for a memorable seventh annual Helping Our Heroes Golf
Tournament; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the committee as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
