| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the members of the Helping Our Heroes Committee on the |

| 4 | 4 | | occasion of the seventh annual Helping Our Heroes Golf |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Tournament, which is taking place on April 6, 2019; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Helping Our Heroes Committee was formed by |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | women of the South Padre Island Golf Club who sought to establish |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | a charitable golf tournament to benefit two worthy causes and to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | honor the late Bill Couch, a military veteran who died of Lou |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Gehrig's disease in 2010; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The Helping Our Heroes Golf Tournament began in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 2011 as a fund-raising event for the ALS Association of Texas, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | which seeks to raise awareness of Lou Gehrig's disease, and the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Wounded Warrior Project, which supports veterans who have |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | incurred physical or mental injuries in the years following the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | September 11, 2001, attacks; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Last year, the tournament brought in 100 golfers |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and raised more than $26,000 for the organizations, and to date, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the Helping Our Heroes Committee has donated more than $108,000 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in event proceeds; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The Helping Our Heroes Golf Tournament is a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | much-anticipated charitable event that has grown through the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | support of numerous volunteers and local businesses; the ALS |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Association of Texas and the Wounded Warrior Project have |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | greatly benefited from the fund-raiser, and all who contribute |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to its success are indeed deserving of recognition; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Helping Our Heroes |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Committee for their charitable efforts and extend to all best |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | wishes for a memorable seventh annual Helping Our Heroes Golf |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Tournament; and, be it further |
