| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Jim R. Wright for his 40 years of exceptional |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | contributions to the state's justice system; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim R. Wright is chief justice of the Eleventh |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Court of Appeals of Texas; he was appointed to the appellate |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | court in 1995 by Governor George W. Bush and was named its chief |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | justice by Governor Rick Perry in 2005, succeeding his longtime |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | friend and mentor, former Chief Justice Austin McCloud; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Chief Justice Wright is a native of West Texas and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | an Order of the Coif graduate of the Texas Tech University School |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | of Law; he began his distinguished 40-year career on the bench in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1979, when Governor Bill Clements appointed him to the 91st |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | District Court; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Philosophically a strict constructionist, he is |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | known for his meticulous preparation for cases and his genuine |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | passion for his work; he has been active in a number of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | professional and civic organizations, including the Texas Bar |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Foundation and the Eastland Independent School District board of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | trustees, and he also serves as the pastor of First Christian |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Church, Disciples of Christ in Eastland; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary jurist, Chief Justice Wright is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | respected and admired by his colleagues for his fairness and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | impartiality, his thorough knowledge of the law, and his passion |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | for serving the public good; it is truly fitting that he receive |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend Chief Justice Jim R. Wright on his |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | many contributions to the justice system in our state and extend |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; |
