2	2	WHEREAS, A group of ranchers and farmers from across the
3	3	Lone Star State have received recognition as the 2017 and 2018
4	4	winners of the Lone Star Land Steward Awards and the Leopold
5	5	Conservation Awards; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Established in 1996 by the Texas Parks and
7	7	Wildlife Department, the Lone Star Land Steward Awards celebrate
8	8	excellence in private land conservation by recognizing
9	9	landowners for their outstanding stewardship of our state's
10	10	land, water, and wildlife resources; more than 225 Texas
11	11	landowners have been recognized to date, and each year, the
12	12	overall state winner is presented with the Leopold Conservation
13	13	Award, which is sponsored by the Sand County Foundation; and
14	14	WHEREAS, The recipient of the Leopold Conservation Award
15	15	in 2017 was the Dixon Water Foundation, owner of Dixon Ranches in
16	16	Parker, Cooke, and Presidio Counties; the 2017 Ecoregion Award
17	17	winners also included Mark Brown of Brown Ranch in Fayette
18	18	County, Mike Harris and John Sewell of Harris Ranch in Uvalde and
19	19	Kinney Counties, Kim Bergman and Pam Mabry Bergman of Three Mile
20	20	Creek Ranch in Gillespie County, the Michaux family of Solana
21	21	Ranch in Bell and Williamson Counties, Greg Grant of Arcadia in
22	22	Shelby County, CEMEX USA and J. Austin Ranches of El Carmen Land
23	23	and Conservation Company in Brewster County, and Rod and Mary
24	24	Hench of Wild Wings Ranch in Scurry County; and
25	25	WHEREAS, In 2018, the Leopold Conservation Award went to
26	26	Rolanette and Berdon Lawrence of Laborcitas Creek Ranch in Brooks
27	27	County, while the 2018 Ecoregion Award winners included Deborah
28	28	Clark and Emry Birdwell of Birdwell and Clark Ranch in Clay
29	29	County, Christopher Harte and William Harte of Spicewood Ranch in
30	30	Burnet County, Nelson Roach of Couch Mountain in Camp County,
31	31	Tamara and Justin Trail of Trail Ranch in Shackelford County, the
32	32	Hughes-Sasser Partnership of Billingsley Ranch in Presidio and
33	33	Jeff Davis Counties, and the Alum Creek Wildlife Management
34	34	Association in Bastrop County; and
35	35	WHEREAS, The natural beauty and ecological diversity of
36	36	the Lone Star State depend greatly on careful stewardship by its
37	37	landowners, and these conscientious and hardworking Texans are
38	38	helping to preserve precious natural and cultural resources for
39	39	future generations; now, therefore, be it
40	40	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
41	41	Legislature, hereby congratulate the 2017 and 2018 recipients of
42	42	the Lone Star Land Steward Awards and the Leopold Conservation
43	43	Awards and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future;
44	44	and, be it further
45	45	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
46	46	prepared for each recipient as an expression of high regard by
47	47	the Texas Senate.
