1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 50
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
3	3	tribute to one of its youngest yet most distinguished members,
4	4	Senator José Menéndez, who on this special day waves goodbye to
5	5	the glorious forties and slips discreetly over the hill into the
6	6	fabulous fifties; and
7	7	WHEREAS, The son of immigrants from Mexico and Cuba, José
8	8	Menéndez was born in San Juan, Texas, and raised on San Antonio's
9	9	Westside; he graduated from Central Catholic High School and
10	10	earned a degree from Southern Methodist University; and
11	11	WHEREAS, He committed himself to public service at an early
12	12	age, and when he joined the Senate in 2015, he had already served
13	13	in the Texas House of Representatives for 15 years; in the House,
14	14	he represented his Bexar County constituency with loyalty and
15	15	dedication, and he has continued to do so as an esteemed member of
16	16	the Senate; and
17	17	WHEREAS, José Menéndez is a devoted family man and the
18	18	proud father of three children, Dominic, Victoria, and Austin; he
19	19	has been married to his beloved wife and best friend, Cehlia
20	20	Newman-Menéndez, since 1995; and
21	21	WHEREAS, The members of his Senate family are grateful for
22	22	the opportunity to pay tribute to him on this special birthday,
23	23	even as they can imagine that he might prefer to be celebrating
24	24	this milestone elsewhere and, quite possibly, in the company of
25	25	others; now, therefore, be it
26	26	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas hereby
27	27	pause in its deliberations to extend warmest birthday greetings
28	28	and best wishes to Senator José Menéndez; and, be it further
29	29	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
30	30	him as an expression of sincerest friendship and esteem from his
31	31	fellow senators.
