| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | recognize the City of Parker on the occasion of its 50th |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | anniversary, which is being celebrated March 30, 2019; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The City of Parker traces its roots to a community |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | established in the late 1840s in the part of the Peters Colony |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | that is now Collin County; it was named in honor of William B. |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | "Uncle Bill" Parker, who owned a cotton gin and gristmill in the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | area; early institutions included the Corinth Presbyterian |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Church and the Parker School; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, On March 22, 1969, local residents voted 79-11 to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | incorporate the community as a city, with two-acre lots and no |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | commercial development as its defining features; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The city has grown to a population of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | approximately 5,000 citizens from its original 360, and its |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | residents have established a wide range of civic organizations, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | including a volunteer fire department, a police department, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the Parker Women's Club; Southfork Ranch, which was made famous |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | by the television program Dallas, still brings many visitors to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the city each year; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, Parker has been an |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | exceptional place in which to live, work, and raise a family, and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | it is truly fitting that the city receive special recognition as |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | it reaches this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the residents of the City of Parker |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | on their many contributions to the growth and prosperity of this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | state and extend to them best wishes for a memorable 50th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
