5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Jewell Joyce Mullis Oney of Harleton on March 7, 2019, |
---|
7 | 7 | | at the age of 100; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Carl and Jewell Mullis, the former |
---|
9 | 9 | | Joyce Mullis was born at home in the Bear Bottom community near |
---|
10 | 10 | | Harleton on May 17, 1918; she attended school in Harleton, and |
---|
11 | 11 | | after graduating from the College of Marshall with a teaching |
---|
12 | 12 | | certificate, she taught first grade in her hometown; she went on |
---|
13 | 13 | | to complete her A.B.A. degree at North Texas State Teachers |
---|
14 | 14 | | College, and in 1959, she received her master's degree in |
---|
15 | 15 | | education from Stephen F. Austin State University; "Miss Joyce" |
---|
16 | 16 | | taught for 38 years until her retirement in 1984; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to her family, Mrs. Oney was the proud |
---|
18 | 18 | | mother of Sue and Ronnie Jones, Jimmy Carl and Jackie Oney, and |
---|
19 | 19 | | Joy Oney; through the years, she was blessed with five |
---|
20 | 20 | | grandchildren, Kevin and Traci Jones, Debra Spatz, and Holly and |
---|
21 | 21 | | Steve Laurel, as well as six great-grandchildren, Kristen and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Mark Clifton, Adam and Abby Jones, Kenady Spatz, and Emilie |
---|
23 | 23 | | Dondero, and five great-great-grandchildren, Reid, Owen, Halle |
---|
24 | 24 | | Kate, and Karis Clifton, and Aubrey Joy Jones; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Oney was a woman of strong faith, and she was |
---|
26 | 26 | | a longtime congregant of the Harleton Baptist Church, where six |
---|
27 | 27 | | generations of her family have been members; she taught Sunday |
---|
28 | 28 | | school and vacation Bible school, and she gave freely of her time |
---|
29 | 29 | | and talents to the Training Union and the Woman's Missionary |
---|
30 | 30 | | Union; in addition, she served as church pianist and sang in the |
---|
31 | 31 | | choir and the Harletones; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Although Joyce Oney will be deeply missed, the |
---|
33 | 33 | | passage of time will never diminish the warmth and kindness that |
---|
34 | 34 | | she brought into the lives of all who were fortunate enough to |
---|
35 | 35 | | know her; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jewell Joyce |
---|
38 | 38 | | Mullis Oney and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones; |
---|
39 | 39 | | and, be it further |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

41 | 41 | | prepared for her family and that when the Senate adjourns this |
