44 Halo Jewel Mills Young
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Halo Jewel Mills Young, who died January
77 16, 2019, at the age of 88; and
88 WHEREAS, Halo Jewel Mills was born on January 27, 1930, in
99 Henderson, Texas; she was an honor student at Greenville
1010 Community School, and she graduated with honors from Henderson
1111 Colored High School in 1948; and
1212 WHEREAS, Halo continued her education at Southwestern
1313 Christian College, where she worked as the school's first
1414 librarian while balancing her course load; she met the love of
1515 her life, Paul Young Jr., during her time as a student, and on
1616 October 27, 1953, they were married in the campus chapel; and
1717 WHEREAS, Halo and Paul built a rewarding life of spiritual
1818 service together; he preached at churches in Texas, Arizona, and
1919 Alabama, and Halo worked tirelessly at each church to create and
2020 foster uplifting ministries that enriched the congregations and
2121 the greater community; the couple retired from service and moved
2222 to Arlington in 2004, and they became faithful members of
2323 Dalworth Park Church of Christ; and
2424 WHEREAS, Halo was a devoted matriarch who raised three
2525 children by loving example, and she made her kitchen a place of
2626 warmth, where family members cooked, conversed, prayed, and
2727 comforted each other; over the years, she passed on family
2828 traditions to her two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren,
2929 who were a source of immense pride and joy; and
3030 WHEREAS, Halo Young was a woman of deep faith, and she
3131 inspired those who knew her through her joyous spirit and
3232 boundless generosity; she was beloved by many, and she will long
3333 be remembered with respect and admiration by all who were
3434 privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3636 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3737 family of Halo Jewel Mills Young; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Halo Young.
