5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Halo Jewel Mills Young, who died January |

7 | 7 | | 16, 2019, at the age of 88; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Halo Jewel Mills was born on January 27, 1930, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Henderson, Texas; she was an honor student at Greenville |
---|
10 | 10 | | Community School, and she graduated with honors from Henderson |
---|
11 | 11 | | Colored High School in 1948; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Halo continued her education at Southwestern |
---|
13 | 13 | | Christian College, where she worked as the school's first |
---|
14 | 14 | | librarian while balancing her course load; she met the love of |
---|
15 | 15 | | her life, Paul Young Jr., during her time as a student, and on |
---|
16 | 16 | | October 27, 1953, they were married in the campus chapel; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Halo and Paul built a rewarding life of spiritual |
---|
18 | 18 | | service together; he preached at churches in Texas, Arizona, and |
---|
19 | 19 | | Alabama, and Halo worked tirelessly at each church to create and |
---|
20 | 20 | | foster uplifting ministries that enriched the congregations and |
---|
21 | 21 | | the greater community; the couple retired from service and moved |
---|
22 | 22 | | to Arlington in 2004, and they became faithful members of |
---|
23 | 23 | | Dalworth Park Church of Christ; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Halo was a devoted matriarch who raised three |
---|
25 | 25 | | children by loving example, and she made her kitchen a place of |
---|
26 | 26 | | warmth, where family members cooked, conversed, prayed, and |
---|
27 | 27 | | comforted each other; over the years, she passed on family |
---|
28 | 28 | | traditions to her two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, |
---|
29 | 29 | | who were a source of immense pride and joy; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Halo Young was a woman of deep faith, and she |
---|
31 | 31 | | inspired those who knew her through her joyous spirit and |
---|
32 | 32 | | boundless generosity; she was beloved by many, and she will long |
---|
33 | 33 | | be remembered with respect and admiration by all who were |
---|
34 | 34 | | privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
37 | 37 | | family of Halo Jewel Mills Young; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
39 | 39 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
