2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Ken Levine retired as Director of the Sunset Advisory |
---|
3 | 3 | | Commission on August 31, 2018, thus drawing to a close an exemplary |
---|
4 | 4 | | career that spanned 37 years with the legislative agency; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Hired to serve the commission in 1981, Mr. Levine |
---|
6 | 6 | | was instrumental in the development of thousands of proposals to |
---|
7 | 7 | | improve government operations and programs through his leadership |
---|
8 | 8 | | and participation in the commission's recommendations; he |
---|
9 | 9 | | conducted and supervised reviews of agencies and programs |
---|
10 | 10 | | related to areas that impact all Texans' lives, such as alcoholic |
---|
11 | 11 | | beverages, water resources, insurance, and human services; after |
---|
12 | 12 | | serving as assistant director, he was promoted to deputy director |
---|
13 | 13 | | in 1995, and 14 years later, he was appointed to lead the agency |
---|
14 | 14 | | in the position of director; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Levine is recognized on the state and national |
---|
16 | 16 | | levels as an expert and a leader in public policy and program |
---|
17 | 17 | | evaluation; he is a Fellow of the Center for Public Policy |
---|
18 | 18 | | Dispute Resolution at The University of Texas School of Law; he |
---|
19 | 19 | | has held several leadership positions with the National |
---|
20 | 20 | | Conference of State Legislatures; he served for five years on its |
---|
21 | 21 | | Executive Committee and for 11 years on its Legislative Staff |
---|
22 | 22 | | Coordinating Committee; he was elected to serve for three terms |
---|
23 | 23 | | on the National Legislative Program Evaluation Society's |
---|
24 | 24 | | Executive Committee and served as both its chair and vice chair; |
---|
25 | 25 | | he has given numerous presentations on program evaluation and the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Sunset process before state, national, and international |
---|
27 | 27 | | audiences; Mr. Levine holds a degree from The University of Texas |
---|
28 | 28 | | at Austin and a master's degree from the institution's Lyndon |
---|
29 | 29 | | B. Johnson School of Public Affairs; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through his leadership, professionalism, and |
---|
31 | 31 | | steadfast commitment to promoting good governance, Ken Levine |
---|
32 | 32 | | has greatly benefited his fellow Texans, and he may indeed |
---|
33 | 33 | | reflect with pride on a career well spent and much appreciated; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Levine is now able to pursue his longtime |
---|
35 | 35 | | passion for traveling and to attend baseball games and enjoy |
---|
36 | 36 | | playing and hearing all genres of music; in addition, he enjoys |
---|
37 | 37 | | spending more time with his family, especially with his wife of |
---|
38 | 38 | | 33 years, Ellie, and their daughter, Katie; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Ken Levine on his exceptional |
---|
41 | 41 | | career and on his retirement as director of the Sunset Advisory |
---|
42 | 42 | | Commission and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; |
---|
