| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of David T. Newman, who |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | died February 1, 2019, at the age of 59; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on November 29, 1959, David Newman was an |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | esteemed citizen who inspired those who knew him with his |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | kindness, his absolute devotion to friends and loved ones, and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | his many contributions to the community; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, David Newman attended The University of Texas at |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Austin; he enjoyed a successful business career as a managing |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | partner and vice president of B. P. Newman Investments, the firm |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | owned by his family, and he oversaw Church's Chicken franchises |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in multiple states; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A devoted philanthropist and respected civic |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | leader, Mr. Newman served on the boards of several charitable |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | foundations, including Habitat for Humanity and the Laredo |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Animal Protective Society, and he was chairman of the board for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the Laredo Chamber of Commerce from 2014 to 2015; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Above all things, Mr. Newman adored his family; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Laura |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Newman, his two children, Brian Patrick and Lindsay Kaye, his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | mother, Peggy Newman, and numerous friends and extended family |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | members; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | family of David T. Newman; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
