44 Maye Everette Thompson Darby
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Maye Everette Thompson Darby, who died
77 January 13, 2019, at the age of 85; and
88 WHEREAS, Maye Thompson was born on March 30, 1933, in Live
99 Oak, to Willie Thompson Jr. and Margaret Veola Bouldin Thompson;
1010 she grew up in Bay City and attended A. G. Hilliard High School
1111 before entering Prairie View A&M University at the age of 15;
1212 after her graduation, she went on to earn a master's degree from
1313 Texas Woman's University; and
1414 WHEREAS, She enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a
1515 home economics teacher in Dallas and McKinney public schools; she
1616 had a profound impact on the lives of countless students and
1717 received numerous honors for her work, including the 1977 Teacher
1818 of the Year award at Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. High School; and
1919 WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her
2020 daily life, she was a longtime faithful member of Memorial
2121 Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas and later of The Potter's
2222 House; and
2323 WHEREAS, She and her beloved husband, the late Elson Darby
2424 Jr., were blessed with two children, Elson Darby III and Everett
2525 Van Brett Darby; her eight grandchildren and five
2626 great-grandchildren, along with the rest of her large and loving
2727 extended family, were a source of much pride and joy for her; and
2828 WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and generosity, she
2929 gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued
3030 counsel will not be forgotten; and
3131 WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
3232 and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by
3333 her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Maye Everette Thompson Darby; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Maye Darby.
