5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Maye Everette Thompson Darby, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | January 13, 2019, at the age of 85; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Maye Thompson was born on March 30, 1933, in Live |
---|
9 | 9 | | Oak, to Willie Thompson Jr. and Margaret Veola Bouldin Thompson; |
---|
10 | 10 | | she grew up in Bay City and attended A. G. Hilliard High School |
---|
11 | 11 | | before entering Prairie View A&M University at the age of 15; |
---|
12 | 12 | | after her graduation, she went on to earn a master's degree from |
---|
13 | 13 | | Texas Woman's University; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, She enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a |
---|
15 | 15 | | home economics teacher in Dallas and McKinney public schools; she |
---|
16 | 16 | | had a profound impact on the lives of countless students and |
---|
17 | 17 | | received numerous honors for her work, including the 1977 Teacher |
---|
18 | 18 | | of the Year award at Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. High School; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her |
---|
20 | 20 | | daily life, she was a longtime faithful member of Memorial |
---|
21 | 21 | | Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas and later of The Potter's |
---|
22 | 22 | | House; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, She and her beloved husband, the late Elson Darby |
---|
24 | 24 | | Jr., were blessed with two children, Elson Darby III and Everett |
---|
25 | 25 | | Van Brett Darby; her eight grandchildren and five |
---|
26 | 26 | | great-grandchildren, along with the rest of her large and loving |
---|
27 | 27 | | extended family, were a source of much pride and joy for her; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and generosity, she |
---|
29 | 29 | | gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued |
---|
30 | 30 | | counsel will not be forgotten; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
---|
32 | 32 | | and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by |
---|
33 | 33 | | her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
36 | 36 | | family of Maye Everette Thompson Darby; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

38 | 38 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
