| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the citizens of Grimes County on the occasion of the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | 125th anniversary of the historic Grimes County Courthouse, |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | which is being celebrated on June 15, 2019; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Grimes County Courthouse was built in 1894 and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | is the fifth structure to serve as the county's seat of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | government; it replaced the fourth building, which was lost to a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | fire in 1893, and uses a part of the red brick from the previous |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | courthouse's east wall; its distinct color pattern is the result |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of using bricks from a variety of different sources; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, the courthouse has been the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | scene of a wide range of notable events, including a gunfight |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | over a contested 1898 election that resulted in damage to the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | building that is still visible today; a made-for-television film |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | directed by Goldie Hawn, Hope, featured the courthouse in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | multiple scenes; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Today, area citizens continue the long tradition |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of meeting at the Grimes County Courthouse on election night to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | celebrate democracy and await election returns; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For 125 years, the Grimes County Courthouse has |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | been a vital part of the fabric of life in the region, and it is |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | truly fitting that it receive recognition on the occasion of this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | anniversary; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Grimes County on |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | their commitment to preserving their rich history and extend to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | them best wishes for a festive 125th anniversary celebration of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the Grimes County Courthouse; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | honor of this special occasion. |
