44 Charles Ronald Rose Sr.
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Charles Ronald Rose Sr., who died April
77 4, 2019, at the age of 73; and
88 WHEREAS, Charles Rose was born January 17, 1946, in Dallas,
99 to Homer Rose Sr. and Dorothy Evelyn Hollingsworth Rose; he was a
1010 1964 graduate of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, where he was
1111 a standout football player and senior class president; he went on
1212 to graduate from Bishop College and to earn a master's degree in
1313 urban and regional affairs from The University of Texas at
1414 Arlington; and
1515 WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Gazelle Pichon Rose,
1616 enjoyed 36 years of marriage together; his five children, eight
1717 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren were a source of
1818 much pride and joy for him; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mr. Rose enjoyed a long career with General Motors
2020 and became a respected and effective leader in the labor
2121 movement; he served on the executive board of Local 816 of the
2222 United Auto Workers and was a well-known advocate for workers'
2323 rights; he was also an entrepreneur who created his own
2424 consulting and auditing business, C. R. Rose and Associates; and
2525 WHEREAS, Mr. Rose heeded the call to public service, and in
2626 1989, he was elected to serve as a school board trustee and as a
2727 justice of the peace in Dallas County; he served as justice of the
2828 peace for 16 years; and
2929 WHEREAS, He was active in a wide range of professional and
3030 civic organizations, including the Justices of the Peace and
3131 Constables Association of Texas, the Boy Scouts of America, the
3232 Knights of Columbus, and the Southeast Oak Cliff Communities
3333 Leadership Association; a trusted voice for his community and a
3434 steadfast defender of civil rights, he was recognized with many
3535 honors and awards, and he was named the 2013 Legislative Black
3636 Caucus Texan of the Year; and
3737 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
3838 grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be
3939 treasured forever by his family and countless friends; now,
4040 therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4242 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4343 family of Charles Ronald Rose Sr.; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4545 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4646 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4747 memory of Charles Ronald Rose Sr.
