5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Charles Ronald Rose Sr., who died April |
---|
7 | 7 | | 4, 2019, at the age of 73; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Charles Rose was born January 17, 1946, in Dallas, |
---|
9 | 9 | | to Homer Rose Sr. and Dorothy Evelyn Hollingsworth Rose; he was a |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1964 graduate of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, where he was |
---|
11 | 11 | | a standout football player and senior class president; he went on |
---|
12 | 12 | | to graduate from Bishop College and to earn a master's degree in |
---|
13 | 13 | | urban and regional affairs from The University of Texas at |
---|
14 | 14 | | Arlington; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife, Gazelle Pichon Rose, |
---|
16 | 16 | | enjoyed 36 years of marriage together; his five children, eight |
---|
17 | 17 | | grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren were a source of |
---|
18 | 18 | | much pride and joy for him; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rose enjoyed a long career with General Motors |
---|
20 | 20 | | and became a respected and effective leader in the labor |
---|
21 | 21 | | movement; he served on the executive board of Local 816 of the |
---|
22 | 22 | | United Auto Workers and was a well-known advocate for workers' |
---|
23 | 23 | | rights; he was also an entrepreneur who created his own |
---|
24 | 24 | | consulting and auditing business, C. R. Rose and Associates; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rose heeded the call to public service, and in |
---|
26 | 26 | | 1989, he was elected to serve as a school board trustee and as a |
---|
27 | 27 | | justice of the peace in Dallas County; he served as justice of the |
---|
28 | 28 | | peace for 16 years; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, He was active in a wide range of professional and |
---|
30 | 30 | | civic organizations, including the Justices of the Peace and |
---|
31 | 31 | | Constables Association of Texas, the Boy Scouts of America, the |
---|
32 | 32 | | Knights of Columbus, and the Southeast Oak Cliff Communities |
---|
33 | 33 | | Leadership Association; a trusted voice for his community and a |
---|
34 | 34 | | steadfast defender of civil rights, he was recognized with many |
---|
35 | 35 | | honors and awards, and he was named the 2013 Legislative Black |
---|
36 | 36 | | Caucus Texan of the Year; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
---|
38 | 38 | | grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be |
---|
39 | 39 | | treasured forever by his family and countless friends; now, |
---|
40 | 40 | | therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
43 | 43 | | family of Charles Ronald Rose Sr.; and, be it further |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
45 | 45 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
46 | 46 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
