2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize the Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee Counties on |

4 | 4 | | the occasion of its 30th anniversary gala and to honor the seven |
---|
5 | 5 | | founding members of the organization; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Established as the Service League of |
---|
7 | 7 | | Jacksonville, the Crisis Center of Anderson and Cherokee |
---|
8 | 8 | | Counties has its roots in a meeting held in 1989 by six women who |
---|
9 | 9 | | gathered to discuss the need to help victims of domestic |
---|
10 | 10 | | violence; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Margie Benge, Donna Williams, Debbie Shreve, |
---|
12 | 12 | | Louise Pierson, Cindy Moss, and Joyce Plunk initiated their |
---|
13 | 13 | | charitable mission by filling their car trunks with baskets of |
---|
14 | 14 | | clothing, baby supplies, and other vital resources; they found |
---|
15 | 15 | | women in need at local emergency rooms and the Jacksonville |
---|
16 | 16 | | Police Station, and they soon rented a space to serve as a |
---|
17 | 17 | | shelter; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Allie Faye Busby joined forces with the six |
---|
19 | 19 | | organizers as the center's first executive director and made |
---|
20 | 20 | | local history by writing the first protective order in Cherokee |
---|
21 | 21 | | County; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The founders of the Crisis Center of Anderson and |
---|
23 | 23 | | Cherokee Counties established a safe space for vulnerable and |
---|
24 | 24 | | abused women that has since grown to serve around 1,000 |
---|
25 | 25 | | individuals every year in their community; they are being honored |
---|
26 | 26 | | for their invaluable service at the center's 30th anniversary |
---|
27 | 27 | | gala on April 25, 2019; now, therefore, be it |
---|
28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend the founders of the Crisis Center of |
---|
30 | 30 | | Anderson and Cherokee Counties for helping abused women in the |
---|
31 | 31 | | region and extend congratulations to all associated with the |
---|
32 | 32 | | center on 30 years of outstanding service; and, be it further |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
34 | 34 | | the center as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
