5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Thelma Ruth Zoch Schatte of Giddings on January 25, |

7 | 7 | | 2019, at the age of 90; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Northrup on December 7, 1928, to Gotthilf |
---|
9 | 9 | | Martin Zoch and Clara Alfrieda Boettcher, the former Thelma Zoch |
---|
10 | 10 | | grew up on a farm with 10 siblings, Ruth, Paul, Monroe, Alma, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Robert, Walter, Rudie, Edwin, Ludwig, and Otto, and she helped out |
---|
12 | 12 | | with the family's crops and livestock; she attended a nearby |
---|
13 | 13 | | Lutheran school before moving to Houston at the age of 14, where |
---|
14 | 14 | | she waitressed for a short time and then served as a governess; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, She was joined in matrimony in 1947 to Louis |
---|
16 | 16 | | Theodore Schatte, with whom she shared a rewarding marriage that |
---|
17 | 17 | | spanned nearly six decades before Mr. Schatte's death in 2006; |
---|
18 | 18 | | Mrs. Schatte was a devoted mother to her nine children, Thomas, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Louis, David, Benjamin, Kenneth, Suzanna, Marlene, Sharon, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | Ronald, and with the passing years she had the pleasure of |
---|
21 | 21 | | welcoming into her family numerous grandchildren and |
---|
22 | 22 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Schatte |
---|
24 | 24 | | dedicated herself to tending the Schatte family farm near |
---|
25 | 25 | | Giddings, where she lived for 69 years and worked alongside her |
---|
26 | 26 | | husband to grow corn, maize, sugar cane, cotton, and peanuts; in |
---|
27 | 27 | | later years, the couple converted the farmland to Coastal Bermuda |
---|
28 | 28 | | meadows, raising Charolais and Black Angus cattle; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Schatte was a longtime |
---|
30 | 30 | | congregant of Immanuel Lutheran and a member of the church choir; |
---|
31 | 31 | | in her leisure time, she took pleasure in working in her large |
---|
32 | 32 | | garden and orchard, where she grew vegetables and fruit trees and |
---|
33 | 33 | | canned hundreds of jars of pickles, beans, beets, peaches, and |
---|
34 | 34 | | pears every year; she enjoyed preparing signature dishes for her |
---|
35 | 35 | | loved ones, especially her homemade bread, Swedish tea ring, and |
---|
36 | 36 | | made-from-scratch cakes; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Although Thelma Schatte is greatly missed, this |
---|
38 | 38 | | beloved woman has left her family and friends with many treasured |
---|
39 | 39 | | memories, and she will forever hold a special place in their |
---|
40 | 40 | | hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Thelma Ruth Zoch |
---|
43 | 43 | | Schatte and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her |
---|
44 | 44 | | passing; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
---|
46 | 46 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
