55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Antonio Ortiz,
77 who died September 12, 2018, at the age of 82; and
88 WHEREAS, Antonio Ortiz was a beloved citizen, and he
99 inspired those who knew him through his wisdom, his integrity,
1010 and his unfailing devotion to the students and educators of the
1111 Brownsville Independent School District; and
1212 WHEREAS, A respected educational administrator, Antonio
1313 was the first principal of Gladys Porter High School, where he
1414 was widely admired for his calming presence and his insightful
1515 approach to problem solving; he epitomized a generation of
1616 educators who made the Brownsville Independent School District a
1717 truly special educational system, and his trusted mentorship
1818 made a difference in the lives of countless students and
1919 teachers; and
2020 WHEREAS, Antonio shared a fulfilling life with his
2121 cherished wife, Virginia Ortiz; he was a doting father to his
2222 seven children, and his two grandchildren were a source of great
2323 pride and joy; and
2424 WHEREAS, A man of dignity, kindness, and strength, Antonio
2525 Ortiz was a cherished friend to many, and his many contributions
2626 to the Brownsville community will not be forgotten; now,
2727 therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
2929 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3030 family of Antonio Ortiz; and, be it further
3131 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3232 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3333 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3434 memory of Antonio Ortiz.
