| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Antonio Ortiz, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | who died September 12, 2018, at the age of 82; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Antonio Ortiz was a beloved citizen, and he |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | inspired those who knew him through his wisdom, his integrity, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and his unfailing devotion to the students and educators of the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Brownsville Independent School District; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A respected educational administrator, Antonio |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | was the first principal of Gladys Porter High School, where he |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | was widely admired for his calming presence and his insightful |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | approach to problem solving; he epitomized a generation of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | educators who made the Brownsville Independent School District a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | truly special educational system, and his trusted mentorship |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | made a difference in the lives of countless students and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | teachers; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Antonio shared a fulfilling life with his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | cherished wife, Virginia Ortiz; he was a doting father to his |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | seven children, and his two grandchildren were a source of great |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | pride and joy; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A man of dignity, kindness, and strength, Antonio |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Ortiz was a cherished friend to many, and his many contributions |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to the Brownsville community will not be forgotten; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | family of Antonio Ortiz; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
