SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 582
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band, which is
being honored with the Dr. William P. Foster Project Award of
Excellence; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious national award is part of an
endeavor of the Music Education Alliance to recognize talented band
directors and music programs that serve historically disadvantaged
student populations at all levels of instruction; and
WHEREAS, The Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band brings
together the impressive skills of dedicated young musicians who
work hard throughout the school year to excel on their individual
instruments and aim toward meeting their full potential in a
performance group; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of head band director Gaspar
Garcia and assistant directors Michael Kuntz, Robert Barron, and
Jose Manzano, band members have developed an exceptional level of
discipline; the band was among three Southwestern Division
winners of the awards program, and it was also selected as the
national winner of the 2018-2019 Dr. William P. Foster Project
Award of Excellence; and
WHEREAS, The Brownsville community is proud of the members
of Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band for their hard work and
impressive talents, and all associated with the music program are
indeed deserving of recognition for their outstanding
achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
Legislature, hereby commend the Oliveira Middle School Symphonic
Band on being selected to receive the Dr. William P. Foster
Project Award of Excellence and extend to members best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the band as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
