| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band, which is |

| 4 | 4 | | being honored with the Dr. William P. Foster Project Award of |

| 5 | 5 | | Excellence; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, This prestigious national award is part of an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | endeavor of the Music Education Alliance to recognize talented band |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | directors and music programs that serve historically disadvantaged |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | student populations at all levels of instruction; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band brings |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | together the impressive skills of dedicated young musicians who |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | work hard throughout the school year to excel on their individual |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | instruments and aim toward meeting their full potential in a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | performance group; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of head band director Gaspar |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Garcia and assistant directors Michael Kuntz, Robert Barron, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Jose Manzano, band members have developed an exceptional level of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | discipline; the band was among three Southwestern Division |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | winners of the awards program, and it was also selected as the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | national winner of the 2018-2019 Dr. William P. Foster Project |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Award of Excellence; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Brownsville community is proud of the members |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of Oliveira Middle School Symphonic Band for their hard work and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | impressive talents, and all associated with the music program are |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | indeed deserving of recognition for their outstanding |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Oliveira Middle School Symphonic |

| 29 | 29 | | Band on being selected to receive the Dr. William P. Foster |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Project Award of Excellence and extend to members best wishes for |
