1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 592
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize the Texas Basket Company for 100 years of service and
4	4	the citizens of Jacksonville who are celebrating Texas Basket
5	5	Company Day in Jacksonville, Texas on May 2, 2019; and
6	6	WHEREAS, The Texas Basket Company was established as the
7	7	Slover Box Company around 1919 to serve farmers with their tomato
8	8	crops in and around the Jacksonville area; the company grew with
9	9	local demand to become one of 57 basket factories in East Texas
10	10	and Louisiana, and today, it thrives as the only remaining basket
11	11	company in the region; and
12	12	WHEREAS, The Texas Basket Company has operated at its
13	13	current location since its founding a century ago, and employees
14	14	continue to use machinery that dates back as far as the 1930s; the
15	15	company was rebranded with a Texas name by its current owner, who
16	16	bought the store with his father in 1977; since that time,
17	17	production has expanded from two types of baskets to around 200
18	18	different types of baskets, crates, and display racks; and
19	19	WHEREAS, The Texas Basket Company is a full-process
20	20	industry, and logs used for the baskets are prepped and steamed
21	21	on-site; staff members produce between 5,000 and 12,000 baskets
22	22	each day, and finished products are sent to local markets,
23	23	roadside farm stands, and high-end retailers in all 50 states; and
24	24	WHEREAS, The employees at the Texas Basket Company are part
25	25	of a historic industry in East Texas, and all associated with the
26	26	business can indeed take pride in 100 years of success; now,
27	27	therefore, be it
28	28	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
29	29	Legislature, hereby commend the owners and staff of the Texas
30	30	Basket Company for continuing a long-standing tradition in
31	31	basket making in the Lone Star State and congratulate them on a
32	32	century of service; and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	34	the company as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
