1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 595
2	2	WHEREAS, Coach Callan Nokes and the members of the Westlake
3	3	High School boys' golf team have garnered well-deserved
4	4	recognition for their outstanding success in recent years; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Ably guided by Coach Nokes since 2002, the
6	6	Chaparrals have advanced to the University Interscholastic
7	7	League Golf State Tournament 14 out of the last 16 years and have
8	8	claimed a total of five team state championships during that
9	9	period, including back-to-back crowns in 2017 and 2018; in fact,
10	10	Westlake has won more state titles and invitational tournaments
11	11	than any other school in 6A history; and
12	12	WHEREAS, The 2018 team included an exceptional lineup of
13	13	golfers; both Matthew Denton and Thomas Bockholt were juniors on
14	14	last year's squad, and both were also members of the
15	15	title-winning Westlake contingent in 2017; Mr. Denton earned
16	16	third and second place, respectively, in the individual state
17	17	standings the past two years and will compete for Texas A&M
18	18	following his high school graduation, while Mr. Bockholt will
19	19	play for Rice University; junior Jackson Davenport finished in
20	20	the top six individually at the 2018 state meet and has verbally
21	21	committed to West Virginia University, and sophomore J. Holland
22	22	Humphries is presently the No. 8 player in the United States in
23	23	the Rolex American Junior Golf Association Rankings; the final
24	24	member of the 2018 Chaparrals was Reid Davenport, who now plays
25	25	for Vanderbilt University; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Highly respected by his peers, Coach Nokes has
27	27	received a number of prestigious awards, including selection as
28	28	the Texas State Coach of the Year and the Southwest United States
29	29	Regional Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State
30	30	High School Associations; moreover, the Texas High School
31	31	Coaches Association honored him in 2013 for compiling 500 victory
32	32	points, and he reached that milestone in just 11 seasons, setting
33	33	the fastest pace among his 6A peers; and
34	34	WHEREAS, Through hard work and an unwavering commitment to
35	35	excellence, the members of the Westlake High boys' golf team have
36	36	built their school into a true powerhouse in the sport, and they
37	37	may indeed take justifiable pride in their legacy of excellence;
38	38	now, therefore, be it
39	39	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
40	40	Legislature, hereby commend Coach Callan Nokes and the Westlake
41	41	High School boys' golf team on their exemplary achievements and
42	42	extend to all those associated with the program sincere best
43	43	wishes for success during the 2019 season and beyond; and, be
44	44	it further
45	45	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
46	46	prepared for the Chaparrals as an expression of high regard by
47	47	the Texas Senate.
