11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 597
22 WHEREAS, Laurie Brubaker, former CEO of Aetna Medicaid,
33 has inspired her loved ones, friends, and colleagues throughout
44 her courageous battle with cancer, and her desire to positively
55 impact the lives of other cancer patients has led her to help
66 raise more than $22,000 for the charity Texas 4000; and
77 WHEREAS, With a career spanning over three decades,
88 Ms. Brubaker has been a recognized leader at Aetna and in the
99 wider insurance industry; she has played an instrumental role in
1010 developing Aetna's corporate culture throughout her tenure as
1111 chief culture officer and in other positions of responsibility,
1212 which have included serving as senior vice president of Medicaid,
1313 president of Aetna's Mid-Atlantic region, and executive advisor
1414 to the Office of the President; she has also been tasked with
1515 overseeing Aetna's pharmacy division, disability and behavioral
1616 health team, and individual and consumer organization; along the
1717 way, she has served on the boards of such organizations as the
1818 Aetna Foundation and Saving Promise, a nonprofit with a mission
1919 to end domestic violence; and
2020 WHEREAS, Ms. Brubaker and her family received devastating
2121 news when she was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer
2222 within the last year, but after waging a fierce fight and
2323 undergoing treatment for the disease in recent months, she is
2424 currently in remission; during her journey, she has been blessed
2525 with the support of a devoted network of friends and family; she
2626 and her husband recently moved to Austin to be closer to their
2727 children, and her retirement from the Aetna business unit on May
2828 7, 2019, though a great loss to the company, will no doubt allow
2929 her to spend even more precious time with her loved ones; and
3030 WHEREAS, In honor of Ms. Brubaker and her extraordinary
3131 strength of spirit, "Team Laurie" managed to collect over $22,000
3232 for Texas 4000, a nonprofit organization that raises money for
3333 cancer research by hosting one of the longest charity bicycle
3434 rides in the world; she chose to contribute to Texas 4000 in part
3535 because of its importance to her son, Chris, who is a University
3636 of Texas alumnus, a former rider, and a current board member of
3737 the charity; and
3838 WHEREAS, By benefiting Texas 4000, Laurie Brubaker and her
3939 supporters are helping to ensure that more Texas patients are
4040 able to triumph over cancer, and it is a privilege to join in
4141 recognizing this remarkable woman for the grace, fortitude, and
4242 passion with which she has carried out this goal; now, therefore,
4343 be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4545 Legislature, hereby commend Laurie Brubaker for her contribution
4646 to Texas 4000 and honor all those involved with Texas 4000 for the
4747 difference they have made in the lives of Texans with cancer;
4848 and, be it further
4949 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
5050 prepared for Ms. Brubaker as an expression of high regard by the
5151 Texas Senate.
