2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Laurie Brubaker, former CEO of Aetna Medicaid, |

3 | 3 | | has inspired her loved ones, friends, and colleagues throughout |

4 | 4 | | her courageous battle with cancer, and her desire to positively |
---|
5 | 5 | | impact the lives of other cancer patients has led her to help |
---|
6 | 6 | | raise more than $22,000 for the charity Texas 4000; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, With a career spanning over three decades, |
---|
8 | 8 | | Ms. Brubaker has been a recognized leader at Aetna and in the |
---|
9 | 9 | | wider insurance industry; she has played an instrumental role in |
---|
10 | 10 | | developing Aetna's corporate culture throughout her tenure as |
---|
11 | 11 | | chief culture officer and in other positions of responsibility, |
---|
12 | 12 | | which have included serving as senior vice president of Medicaid, |
---|
13 | 13 | | president of Aetna's Mid-Atlantic region, and executive advisor |
---|
14 | 14 | | to the Office of the President; she has also been tasked with |
---|
15 | 15 | | overseeing Aetna's pharmacy division, disability and behavioral |
---|
16 | 16 | | health team, and individual and consumer organization; along the |
---|
17 | 17 | | way, she has served on the boards of such organizations as the |
---|
18 | 18 | | Aetna Foundation and Saving Promise, a nonprofit with a mission |
---|
19 | 19 | | to end domestic violence; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Brubaker and her family received devastating |
---|
21 | 21 | | news when she was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer |
---|
22 | 22 | | within the last year, but after waging a fierce fight and |
---|
23 | 23 | | undergoing treatment for the disease in recent months, she is |
---|
24 | 24 | | currently in remission; during her journey, she has been blessed |
---|
25 | 25 | | with the support of a devoted network of friends and family; she |
---|
26 | 26 | | and her husband recently moved to Austin to be closer to their |
---|
27 | 27 | | children, and her retirement from the Aetna business unit on May |
---|
28 | 28 | | 7, 2019, though a great loss to the company, will no doubt allow |
---|
29 | 29 | | her to spend even more precious time with her loved ones; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In honor of Ms. Brubaker and her extraordinary |
---|
31 | 31 | | strength of spirit, "Team Laurie" managed to collect over $22,000 |
---|
32 | 32 | | for Texas 4000, a nonprofit organization that raises money for |
---|
33 | 33 | | cancer research by hosting one of the longest charity bicycle |
---|
34 | 34 | | rides in the world; she chose to contribute to Texas 4000 in part |
---|
35 | 35 | | because of its importance to her son, Chris, who is a University |
---|
36 | 36 | | of Texas alumnus, a former rider, and a current board member of |
---|
37 | 37 | | the charity; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, By benefiting Texas 4000, Laurie Brubaker and her |
---|
39 | 39 | | supporters are helping to ensure that more Texas patients are |
---|
40 | 40 | | able to triumph over cancer, and it is a privilege to join in |
---|
41 | 41 | | recognizing this remarkable woman for the grace, fortitude, and |
---|
42 | 42 | | passion with which she has carried out this goal; now, therefore, |
---|

44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature, hereby commend Laurie Brubaker for her contribution |

46 | 46 | | to Texas 4000 and honor all those involved with Texas 4000 for the |
---|
47 | 47 | | difference they have made in the lives of Texans with cancer; |
---|
