| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the Texas Association of Counties in recognizing |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | April 30, 2019, as County Government Day at the Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The month of April 2019 is being observed by the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | National Association of Counties as National County Government |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Month to provide the nation's citizens with an opportunity to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | honor the many contributions made by county governments; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The oldest form of local government in the United |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | States, county government addresses many critical issues, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | including environmental protection, indigent health care, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | special assistance for the elderly, job training, and public |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | safety; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, There are 254 counties in Texas, and those |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | dedicated individuals who serve our counties as elected or |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | appointed officials not only work diligently to meet the needs of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | citizens without placing an undue burden on taxpayers but also |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | commit themselves to finding solutions to problems that will |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | benefit all Texans; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Counties encourages |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | citizens across the state to observe National County Government |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Month by learning more about this vital form of local government |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and the many ways in which it serves the public; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the county officials of this state |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | for their countless contributions to Texas and welcome members of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the Texas Association of Counties to Austin as they celebrate |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | County Government Day at the Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 31 | 31 | | the Texas Association of Counties in honor of County |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Government Day at the Capitol and as an expression of esteem |
