4	4	Carmelita Riley Peña
5	5	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
6	6	commemorates the life of Carmelita Riley Peña, who died March 23,
7	7	2019, at the age of 84; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Carmelita Peña was an exemplary citizen who was
9	9	widely respected and admired for her compassion toward others and
10	10	her many contributions to the Laredo community; and
11	11	WHEREAS, She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees
12	12	from Corpus Christi State University and a master's degree from
13	13	Laredo State University, and she enjoyed a long and distinguished
14	14	career as a registered nurse in the neonatal ward at Mercy
15	15	Hospital; she went on to serve as a mentor and guide to countless
16	16	nursing students at Laredo Junior College and was an
17	17	administrator at Laredo State University; and
18	18	WHEREAS, She was devoted to her husband, Anthony J. Peña,
19	19	and she took joy in her wonderful family; her children, Agnes
20	20	Marshall, Reynaldo Gonzalez, Richard Gonzalez, and the late
21	21	Eduardo, Henry, and David Riley Gonzalez, were a source of much
22	22	pride for her; she was blessed with eight grandchildren, four
23	23	great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; and
24	24	WHEREAS, A woman of courage, grace, and generosity, she was
25	25	beloved by many in her community, and she leaves behind memories
26	26	that will be treasured forever by all who were privileged to
27	27	share in her life; now, therefore, be it
28	28	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
29	29	Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
30	30	family of Carmelita Riley Peña; and, be it further
31	31	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
32	32	her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
33	33	Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
34	34	memory of Carmelita Peña.
