11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 616
22 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
33 recognize the Texas Access to Justice Commission's Champions of
44 Justice Gala Benefiting Veterans on the occasion of its 10th
55 anniversary; and
66 WHEREAS, The Champions of Justice Gala Benefiting Veterans
77 raises critical funds for courageous men and women who have
88 fought tirelessly for the freedom of all Americans; and
99 WHEREAS, Upon returning home after service, veterans are
1010 often faced with wrongful denial of benefits, discrimination due
1111 to disabilities, improper evictions and foreclosures, complicated
1212 family law matters, and other legal crises; and
1313 WHEREAS, More than $3 million has been raised to provide
1414 critical civil legal aid to Texans who have worn the uniform of
1515 any branch of the United States Armed Forces; and
1616 WHEREAS, Texas has proudly led the nation in promoting
1717 access to justice for veterans, making it possible for more than
1818 8,500 low-income and homeless veterans to receive desperately
1919 needed, life-altering legal aid last year alone; and
2020 WHEREAS, The Texas Access to Justice Commission is
2121 committed to the vision that all Texas veterans will have equal
2222 access to justice regardless of their income and is truly
2323 deserving of recognition for its exemplary work on this vital
2424 mission; now, therefore, be it
2525 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
2626 Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Access to Justice
2727 Commission on its efforts to ensure that low-income veterans
2828 receive quality legal representation and extend to the members of
2929 the commission best wishes for a memorable Champions of Justice
3030 Gala Benefiting Veterans on its 10th anniversary; and, be
3131 it further
3232 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3333 the Texas Access to Justice Commission as an expression of high
3434 regard from the Texas Senate.
