| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Texas Access to Justice Commission's Champions of |

| 4 | 4 | | Justice Gala Benefiting Veterans on the occasion of its 10th |

| 5 | 5 | | anniversary; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Champions of Justice Gala Benefiting Veterans |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | raises critical funds for courageous men and women who have |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | fought tirelessly for the freedom of all Americans; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Upon returning home after service, veterans are |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | often faced with wrongful denial of benefits, discrimination due |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | to disabilities, improper evictions and foreclosures, complicated |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | family law matters, and other legal crises; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, More than $3 million has been raised to provide |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | critical civil legal aid to Texans who have worn the uniform of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | any branch of the United States Armed Forces; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Texas has proudly led the nation in promoting |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | access to justice for veterans, making it possible for more than |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 8,500 low-income and homeless veterans to receive desperately |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | needed, life-altering legal aid last year alone; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Access to Justice Commission is |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | committed to the vision that all Texas veterans will have equal |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | access to justice regardless of their income and is truly |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | deserving of recognition for its exemplary work on this vital |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | mission; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Access to Justice |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Commission on its efforts to ensure that low-income veterans |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | receive quality legal representation and extend to the members of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the commission best wishes for a memorable Champions of Justice |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Gala Benefiting Veterans on its 10th anniversary; and, be |
