55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Dr. Helen Fisher Jackson, who died
77 February 7, 2019, at the age of 90; and
88 WHEREAS, Helen Jackson was born December 20, 1928, in
99 Hubbard, to Jesse Fisher and Ella Mae Barnes-Fisher; she grew up
1010 participating in cheerleading and athletics, and she moved to
1111 Dallas soon after her 1946 high school graduation; and
1212 WHEREAS, She was a successful businesswoman who owned a
1313 styling salon in Dallas; she also served as a beauty college
1414 instructor, and she worked at numerous schools in the Dallas
1515 community; and
1616 WHEREAS, After her retirement from employment at area
1717 schools, she demonstrated her lifelong commitment to education
1818 by earning a degree from Paul Quinn College on the 50th
1919 anniversary of her high school graduation; she then went on to
2020 earn a master's degree in theology from Vision International
2121 University and a doctorate in divinity; and
2222 WHEREAS, She was active in a wide range of civic and
2323 professional organizations, including the Dallas Parks and
2424 Recreation-Beckley Saner Board of Trustees, Grace International
2525 Seminary, the DeSoto Public Library, and Lifeway Church; she
2626 received several honors for her work in the community; and
2727 WHEREAS, She and her beloved husband, Fred Norman Jackson,
2828 were blessed with a wonderful family; her children, Michael,
2929 Byron, Re'Donna, Karen, Astra, and Helena, were a source of much
3030 pride and joy for her; and
3131 WHEREAS, A woman of courage, grace, and generosity, she was
3232 a devoted wife and mother, and she leaves behind memories that
3333 will be treasured forever by all who were privileged to share in
3434 her life; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3636 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3737 family of Dr. Helen Fisher Jackson; and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3939 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4040 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4141 memory of Helen Fisher Jackson.
