5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Dr. Helen Fisher Jackson, who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | February 7, 2019, at the age of 90; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Helen Jackson was born December 20, 1928, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Hubbard, to Jesse Fisher and Ella Mae Barnes-Fisher; she grew up |
---|
10 | 10 | | participating in cheerleading and athletics, and she moved to |
---|
11 | 11 | | Dallas soon after her 1946 high school graduation; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, She was a successful businesswoman who owned a |
---|
13 | 13 | | styling salon in Dallas; she also served as a beauty college |
---|
14 | 14 | | instructor, and she worked at numerous schools in the Dallas |
---|
15 | 15 | | community; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After her retirement from employment at area |
---|
17 | 17 | | schools, she demonstrated her lifelong commitment to education |
---|
18 | 18 | | by earning a degree from Paul Quinn College on the 50th |
---|
19 | 19 | | anniversary of her high school graduation; she then went on to |
---|
20 | 20 | | earn a master's degree in theology from Vision International |
---|
21 | 21 | | University and a doctorate in divinity; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, She was active in a wide range of civic and |
---|
23 | 23 | | professional organizations, including the Dallas Parks and |
---|
24 | 24 | | Recreation-Beckley Saner Board of Trustees, Grace International |
---|
25 | 25 | | Seminary, the DeSoto Public Library, and Lifeway Church; she |
---|
26 | 26 | | received several honors for her work in the community; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, She and her beloved husband, Fred Norman Jackson, |
---|
28 | 28 | | were blessed with a wonderful family; her children, Michael, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Byron, Re'Donna, Karen, Astra, and Helena, were a source of much |
---|
30 | 30 | | pride and joy for her; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A woman of courage, grace, and generosity, she was |
---|
32 | 32 | | a devoted wife and mother, and she leaves behind memories that |
---|
33 | 33 | | will be treasured forever by all who were privileged to share in |
---|
34 | 34 | | her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
37 | 37 | | family of Dr. Helen Fisher Jackson; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
39 | 39 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
41 | 41 | | memory of Helen Fisher Jackson. |
